SUJATA a college belle, a budding dancer is a collective of grace, beauty, intelligence and talents. With dreams in her heart and fire in her belly she hops into real world hoping to scale cultural summits and master local traditions. Suiting her spirit she joins journalism. Her encounters with the shenanigans of politicians and the spinelessness of the victimized people disillusions her. Her work place colleague PRAKASH rebuilds her confidence and encourages her to emigrate and join Washington Post. She makes a mark soon and becomes observer in the Presidential Election travelling with Ms.Harris. Impressed with her professionalism Sujata is drafted by WPost to do an interview of budding Indian Scientists with an uptick. She delivers the assignment with aplomb.

KRISHNA the rising scientist star in international potato research and currently holding McDonald Chair in North Western, Chicago is thoroughly impressed with the work style of Sujata for the interview and her professional demeanor. Their relationship blossoms in six months with Zoom calls, Face Book chats intervening. They get married that year end in Tirupati with siblings and parents present. Krishna introduces Sujata to the academia and facilities in the university to pursue her interests while he is shuttling between scientific conferences and seminars. He takes her along to Oslo, Stockholm etc and opens the skies for her.

Soon enough RAMYA was born to the couple after a few months of the visit to Oslo.A Mexican nanny steps in to nurture the child. The child learns three languages at home honoring Indian government policy!! In line with the desire of grandparents the young couple perform a visit to the family deity for religious naming and tortioning of the three year old child. Sujata visits Kalakshetra to collect details on Serfoji, Rukmini Devi and history of Bharata Natyam during the India visit. Also she meets with doyens of dance to widen her horizon and deepen her research.

Krishna’s scientific and family responsibilities were scaling up in tandem. RAMESH was born a year later after their India visit. Ramya is now in school attracting all eyes with her smartness, IQ & EQ. Krishna was successful in reducing the water content in different types of potatoes saving on oil, increasing the shelf life and reducing frying time for McDonalds The break through was hailed as increasing food security for the poor in the world. McDonalds rewarded him with a huge cash award representing 1% share in the projected profits in the next decade. Having completed his assignment in Chicago, Krishna relocates to Calgary, his parent institute. Invitations from India, Philippines, Ireland, Canada & Germany inundate his professional diary.

ESTHER a new house help arrives in Calgary from Nagar Kovil India. She is an epitome of dignified presence, quality service and deep understanding of human needs. She is ever present to assist Sujata who is now condemned to wheel chair existence having suffered muscle atrophy during the third child birth. With Sujata’s movements restricted and dreams shattered her original independent spirit was transforming into a rebellious spirit. She was spewing venom and alienating one and all. Ramesh the youngest child dare not enter mother’s room. Krishna became a silent sufferer. Ramya was the only spirit in the household seeing through the veil of gloom. மதிப்புரை

திரு. சத்தியமூர்த்தியுடன் எனக்கு 57 ஆண்டுகளாக நெருங்கிய நட்பு தொடர்ந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறது.

1964இல் ஒரே சமயத்தில் இருவரும் ஒன்றாக சென்னை ரிஸர்வ் வங்கி கிளையில் வேலையில் சேர்ந்தோம். சில ஆண்டுகளிலேயே அவர் மத்திய நிர்வாகத் துறை தேர்வில் வெற்றி பெற்று மத்திய நிதி நிர்வாகத் தணிக்கைத் துறையில் இணைந்தார்.

பன்முகத் திறமைகளைக் கொண்ட அவர் ஒரு சிறந்த சாதனையாளர். உத்தியோகத் துறையுடன் எழுத்துத் துறையிலும் அவர் கொடிகட்டி பறந்தது எனக்கு என்றும் பிரம்மிப்பை அளிக்கக்கூடிய விஷயமாகும்.

தமிழ் மற்றும் ஆங்கிலத்திலும் அவர் எழுத்திலும் பேசுவதிலும் அதீத ஆற்றல் பெற்றவர்.

அவரது முதல் நூலான ‘மூன்று நாடுகளில் முன்னூறு நாட்கள்’ வெளிவருவதற்கு நானும் ஒரு காரணமாக இருந்ததில் எனக்கு மிகுந்த மகிழ்ச்சி உண்டு.

1983-ல் சென்னை அண்ணாசாலை L.L.A. வளாகத்தில் அன்றைய தமிழக சுகாதார அமைச்சர் திரு. H.V. ஹண்டே அவர்களால் வெளியிடப்பட்டது. எழுத்தாளர்கள் திரு. விக்கிரமன், அனுராதா ரமணன், மற்றும் பல பிரபல எழுத்தாளர்கள் பங்கேற்றனர். எனது நாவல் ‘விகிதங்கள் மாறுவதுண்டு’ அவ்விழாவில் வெளியானது.

'அமுதசுரபி' இதழில் விக்கிரமன் ‘மாடியில் ஜோடி விழா' என்று எழுதி இருந்தார்.

தொடர்ந்து சத்தியமூர்த்தி உத்தியோக தேவைகளுக்கு நடுவே எழுத்துத் துறையையும் தீவிரமாகத் தொடர்ந்தார்.

அவரது மிகச் சிறந்த எழுத்துத் துறை படைப்பாக நான் கருதுவது மணியனின் இதயம் பேசுகிறது' வார இதழில் அவர் 1995 முதல் 2005-ஆம் ஆண்டு வரை அவ்விதழின் 'கடைசி' பக்கக் கட்டுரைகளைச் சொல்வேன்.

பலதரப்பட்ட விஷயங்களை சுவையாகவும், சுருக்கமாகவும், வாசகர்களுக்கு பயனுள்ளவையாகவும் அளித்தார்.

அவரது முதல் நாவல் ‘ஆயிரம் நிலவே வா’ பல ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு புத்தகம் வெளியாயிற்று.

இதுவரை நிர்வாகத் துறை, வழிகாட்டு சிந்தனைகள் ஆகியவை கொண்டதாக 17 படைப்புகள் புத்தகங்களாக வெளியாகி உள்ளன.

முன்னாள் ஜனாதிபதி திரு. அப்துல் கலாம், அவ்வை நடராஜன், கமலஹாசன், சிவசங்கரி, இந்துமதி போன்ற பல பிரபலங்கள் இவரது படைப்புகளை தலைமை வகித்து வெளியிட்டனர்.

சின்னத்திரையிலும் இவர் சகாப்தம் படைத்துள்ளார். நாடகம், க்விஸ், விளம்பரத்துறை என்று தனது முத்திரையைப் படைத்துள்ளார்.

இந்திய அரசின் நிதித்துறை தணிக்கை பிரிவில் Deputy Auditor General பதவி வரை உயர்ந்து ஓய்வு பெற்றார்.

ஓய்வுக்குப் பின் பல நாடுகளில் நிதித்துறை ஆலோசகராக செயலாற்றியுள்ளார். காபுல், ஜீபா அம்மா, பாக்தாத், ஜெருசலேம் ஆகியவை அவற்றில் அடங்கும். தற்போது ஸ்பெயின் நாட்டில் ஆலோசகராகப் பணியாற்றி வருகிறார்.

முன்னாள் இந்திய ஜனாதிபதி அப்துல் கலாம் அவர்கள் கலாக்ஷேத்ரா ருக்மணி தேவி பற்றி இவர் எழுதிய புத்தகத்தை வெளியிட்டதை ஓர் அரிய வாய்ப்பாகக் கருதுகிறார்.

அலைகள், முத்துக்கள், அம்மா வந்தாச்சு, பட்டாம்பூச்சிகள், தூறல்கள், மின்னல்கள் ஆகிய இவரது நூல்கள் இவரது இலக்கியப் படைப்புகளுக்கு சான்றாகும்.

இவரது இலக்கிய பணி தொடர எனது வாழ்த்துக்கள்.

என்ன இங்கேயும் தாலிபானா... கழக ஆட்சியில், சென்னைக்குள் தீவிரவாதிகள் ஊடுருவி விட்டார்களா...?

ஒரு நிமிடம்... ஒரே ஒரு நிமிடம்... உண்மை தெரிந்ததும் சிரித்துக் கொண்டே தங்கள் வழி சென்றார்கள்.

மாணவிகளின் மிமிக்ரிகள், ஓரங்க நாடகங்கள், லெக்சரர் பற்றிய கேலி வர்ணனைகள், பேச்சுப் போட்டிகள், கவிதைகள் என்று கதம்பச் சரமாக நிகழ்ச்சி... முத்தாய்ப்பாக ஒரு முழு மணி நேர நடன நிகழ்ச்சி... அந்த நடன நிகழ்ச்சியைப் பார்த்து, ரசித்த அத்தனை பிஞ்சு மனங்களும், விரல்கள் செக்கச் சிவக்கக் கைதட்டின.

ஐஸ்கிரீம் மேல் செர்ரி போல நடன நிகழ்ச்சி... கல்லூரி ப்யூட்டி... ஸ்டெல்லா ஹீரோயின் சுஜாதாவின் பரதநாட்டியம் படர்ந்து விரிந்து, தில்லானாவோடு முடிந்திருந்தது. காமாட்சி அம்மனுக்குக் கற்பூர ஆரத்தி காட்டி அர்ச்சனையை முடிப்பது போல கல்லூரி தின விழாவில் சுஜாதாவின் நடனப் பிரஸ்தாரம் சுடராய் மின்னி நினைவில் தேங்கியது.

சென்ற மூன்று வருடங்களாக ஒவ்வொரு வருடமும் கல்லூரி தின விழாவில் முத்தாய்ப்பான நிகழ்ச்சி சுஜாதாவின் நடனம் தான். ஒரு வருடம் கவர்னர் வந்தார். அவரோடு எல்லோரும் நடனத்தை ரசித்துக் கைதட்டினார்கள். மறு வருடம் முதன் மந்திரி வந்தார். ரசித்தார். மனதாரப் பாராட்டினார். எல்லாரும் கை தட்டினார்கள்.

இந்த வருடம், அன்றைய தினம், கல்லூரிக்கு 75வது வருடமாம். ஆகவே ஜனாதிபதியையே அழைத்து வந்து விட்டார்கள். அவர் முகத்தில் தான் எத்தனை மகிழ்ச்சி... சுஜாதாவின் நடனத்தைப் பார்த்து களித்துக் கை தட்டினார்.

குடியரசுத் தலைவரும், கல்லூரி பிரின்சிபாலும், கல்லூரி மாணவியர் தலைவியும் பேசினர். கல்லூரியின் சரித்திரச் சிறப்புகள், கடந்த வருட வெற்றிகள், எதிர்காலத் திட்டங்கள், தேவைகள், சாதனைகள் என்று பல கருத்துகளைத் தொகுத்துத் தந்தனர். முடிவாக, சுஜாதாவுக்கு ஜனாதிபதி கையால் மாலை அணிவிக்க அழைக்கப்பட்டாள். பலத்த கைதட்டல். கண்கள் மின்ன, முகம் ஜொலிக்க, கரம் குவித்து, சிரம் தாழ்த்தி சுஜாதா வந்தாள். குடியரசுத் தலைவர் பரவசத்தோடு மாலை அணிவித்தார். திரை விழுந்தது.

உடனே சில மான்கள் மேடைக்குத் தாவின. சில குயில்கள் 'உய்ங்' என்று கூவின. பிற கல்லூரிக் காளைகள், ‘உய்ங்... உய்ங்...’ என்று விசிலடித்தனர்.

கைதட்டலும், கலகலப்பும், கனகாம்பரமும், மருக்கொழுந்துமாய் மகிழ்ச்சி மணம் பரப்பின.

தெருவில் போனவர்களும் சிரித்துக் கொண்டே சென்றார்கள்.
