Description

The plaintiff hired the defendant to put up decorations and props at her daughter’s Hollywood-themed Sweet 16 party. She says the defendant showed up late, so people had to wait in the lobby for the party to start. She’s suing for a partial refund. The defendant argues his workmen got stuck in traffic because of a marathon, but they still got everything done. He claims the party got started only 10 minutes late, and he offered her a credit for her next party, but she refused.
Then, the plaintiff hired the defendant, a painter, to do work around his house. He paid the defendant most of the money upfront, but he claims the workers did a terrible job and damaged his house. He’s suing for a refund. The defendant argues his workers did a great job and the plaintiff is impossible to please. He doesn’t think he owes the plaintiff a dime.
Plus, the plaintiff contracted with the defendant to rent space for an event with 250 people. The plaintiff claims the defendant rented the venue to someone else just six days before the scheduled event, so he’s suing for breach of contract. The defendant argues the plaintiff didn’t pay and someone else offered him more money instead. He claims he did not even have a contract with the plaintiff to begin with.
