    Her Billionaire Man Book 13 - Shambles - Olivia Summer

    Chapter One

    {Maurice}

    I heard the screams of the women panicking as the shooting continued. I didn’t realize they would catch up this fast with me! I should never have used my phone. I had wanted to get another phone, but knowing David, he would never have taken me seriously if I used a random line to tell him I was coming.

    More gunshots hit the door, yet the perpetrators didn’t bother to enter the house, which was, of course, to my relief.

    Do something, Maurice, make this stop! David yelled at me from the couch he was bent down beside.

    Like what? Grow bulletproof doors and make us disappear? Just stay there! This will be over soon!

    You fool! My friend is bleeding! Melissa yelled too, her voice a deep, angry snort. I knew she had every right to be pissed, but I knew her friend didn’t get hit by the bullets. When she screamed in pain again, I had to stop thinking she hadn’t been hit. That was such coarse, painful wailing.

    Then, as I was almost tempted to start a conversation with the shooters to bargain something for our lives, the shooting stopped.

    I think the clowns are tired of shooting at the house, I said.

    I hope so…! This is craziness, shooting at a house when they know we are inside. Who the hell are these people? Melissa yelled.

    I wouldn’t be too quick to talk if I were you, I said, sucking a thumb to make my voice less audible.

    I waited a few more seconds to be sure they were gone and not trying to smoke us out. Then I stood with extreme caution, tiptoed to the nearest window blind, and parted it enough to see the porch. I saw them, two men and a lady dressed in a black overall, as they got into the van and drove off, making a hell of a noise, with their tires screeching.

    They’re gone! I said. Melissa and David scurried out from where they were hiding and raced over to Mandy’s side. I almost puked when I turned and saw the damage they had done to the house. Not from the ruins but from the pool of blood Mandy was lying in.

    Call 911, now! Melissa screamed at David. I couldn’t move a muscle. I was scared, so scared my chaos had cost a life! Melissa reached for Mandy’s hand, feeling for a pulse. Then she tapped her gently.

    Goodness, she’s got a pulse! She sighed with relief, and I did too. She checked her body for gunshot wounds but didn’t find any. She didn’t get hit! she announced to my relief. I wanted to ask why she was bleeding, but David’s panicked call shut me up.

    We have an emergency here! I will leave the line connected for you to trace it. Please be here ASAP. It is very critical! Then he dropped the phone next to Mandy.

    ‘Why don’t they come? The deafening noise must have been heard at some point?" Melissa screamed, her eyes accusing me angrily.

    No, love. There was no noise since they used silencers, and the noise was just a figment of your imagination, I said as I shook my head.

    So we would have died here without anyone hearing anything but the thudding sounds of our bodies dropping, Maurice?
