    Synopsis

    MELISSA

    I couldn’t watch the Vans being apart, so I had to do something. My gut gave me the first clue to having Kendall’s home bugged. That would lead me to know what game she was up to. Something about the new home manager just kept me digging deeper into her past.

    THE VANS

    We let things get too messy between us, and after all the months of being apart, we realized that the fight had only helped us realize one thing: we couldn’t handle living apart, and now we were better than ever.

    FINCH

    The ranch at Greenwich seemed to be more dangerous than I had imagined when I set out. It had taken all my energy to get out alive. A single phone call had ruined the feeling of survival pumping through me. Smith was dying, and his life was not what I could bargain with against the McGills.

    CHAPTER ONE

    {Finch}

    When my driver parked behind the car in the driveway, I sighed with relief. My PI was right after all. The motherfucker was out here, hiding out like the scarecrow that he was. Now I would smoke him out and make sure he paid through his nose for screwing me over.

    While the engine was still running, the driver turned toward me and asked, Should I come with you?

    I ignored him, climbed out of the car, leaned over the driver’s side of the door, and said, Wait out here for me. Regardless of what you hear, do not come out of the car, and make sure you keep the car running. Okay?

    Got it, boss, he nodded at me.

    Good! I said, clutching the briefcase even tighter as I walked away from the car. The ranch was quite beautiful with all the traditional touches of latches, but I was not in the mood to admire the building; I was a man on a mission that could turn out to be deadly and bloody on both sides.

    When I got to the door, I slipped my hand inside the briefcase and reached for the handgun. With expert hands, I loaded the bullets hastily, just in time as I climbed the porch.

    I was cautious with how I carried myself, making sure my steps were very lightweight. I may have missed out on the element of surprise or may even have been monitored on the CCTV, but I was being careful regardless.

    I didn’t bother using the doorbell. I pushed at the door, not so gently, only to realize the door was unlocked.

    Hmmm… I whispered as I made my way through the dark hallway. The whole house was dead quiet from the second I walked in. Why would he not even heat up the house? Was he planning on dying out here? Then I shook my head slowly at his antics. He didn’t want anyone to know he was here after all.

    Well, I got ya! I smiled softly. A sudden movement around me made me stop instantly. I listened raptly as I followed the direction of the noise. It came from somewhere in the basement.

    "Come out, you old coward! Hiding out here will do you no
