Chapter One

I didn’t even bother about what time it was or how cold it had become. The Rolex watch on my wrist was ticking animatedly, as I kept staring at my wife’s face, her gentle breath matching the beeping sound from the machines, while my fingers gently massaged her palm. I had never felt this lonely before. I could not even bring myself to blink or close my eyes, even though I could tell it was evening, but not how late it was.

Baby, remember, we have a lot more dramas to fight together. You dare not leave me to do it alone, I whispered. Nothing. I am so proud of you for fighting hard for our child. Now I need you also to fight to be with me, Mandy. I miss you so much! Nothing. My stomach growled, reminding me I had skipped lunch and dinner time was fast approaching, yet I couldn’t bring myself to leave her side.

The doctor had asked me to continue what I had been doing to get an initial reaction from her earlier when all I had done was make conversations with her as if she was replying. I couldn’t quite figure out what I had said exactly, but I didn’t mind having a one-sided chat with my woman either. My mind strayed to Melissa, who I knew would have been here if she was not too busy guilt-tripping about what happened. Of course, I was angry hearing about what had happened, but then I calmed my nerves, knowing she would never put Mandy in an awkward situation if she knew it was going to get dangerous.

The poor woman could barely look me in the eyes! It was the reason I had asked her to leave, using the doctor’s words for effect. She needed to rest, too; they had also suffered shock, and Mandy was getting the care she needed. I was certain the man I met at the door would take care of her. The way he was so calm while asking for my help assured me Melissa was in safe hands.

"Mandy, all I can think of is to have you in reverse cowgirl style, riding me like there
