Amanda’s POV

I stood rooted to the spot, my treacherous feet unwavering while my brain seemed determined not to leave the subject of my dumbness, Rita, m y fiancée’s supposed ex-lover, who apparently was his housemate.

Sweetheart, don’t act so shocked now! Do you know, a man’s got standards, and look at me. I am the perfect description of who deserves to stand beside Craig, n ot you. I feel insulted. I have to share Craig with someone so hideously poor looking as you!

Rita’s derailing voice jogged me back to reality. Her green eyes surveyed me slowly while she pushed out her mouth, sucked in some air, and finished off with a throaty laugh. She had this air about her that soaked in every other person in the room, and I was not excluded.

I wanted so badly to yell at her, but I couldn’t get my eyes off the ring on her finger as she waved her left hand in my face in a determined manner. We had replica rings on our fingers, and I began to feel nauseous about this two-facet affair. I felt small and weak. Never in all my years have I felt this helpless and low. Craig was betraying me all over again.
