Nightmare on my street

Opening the door with a bowl of sweets tucked under my arm, I smiled at the kids’ cries of ‘Trick or treat!’

It was the night before Halloween in October 2021, and I was getting ready to go to a neighbour's party.

I'd decided to dress up as DC Comics supervillain Harley Quinn.

Tying my hair up in pigtails, I painted my fringe with red and blue mascara.

With smoky eyeliner, a black heart etched on my cheek and Harley's infamous Daddy's Lil Monster T-shirt, I looked the part.

‘You look great!’ said my neighbour John when he opened the front door. Inside, everyone had made an effort.
