Description

Episode 58 is an interview with Meghan Laws (previously Arbogast). Running wasn’t Meghan’s first sport. She played volleyball, basketball and spent a lot of time horseback riding as a kid. Meghan got started running in her 20s as a way to efficiently get some exercise. Because she’d always liked competitive sports, she started running 5ks and 10ks. Meghan had a young child, and this fit nicely into her lifestyle. As she got older, Meghan started to run further, starting marathoning in her 30s. Eventually she hired her first coach who helped Meghan get her times down in the 2:40s, qualifying her for the Olympic Marathon trials. Meghan finally got the ultra running bug when she turned 42. Over the past 3 decades she has qualified and run in the marathon trials 4 times, has completed Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run 12 times, 10 of those being in the top 10, and all under 24 hours. Meghan has also represented the USA in the World 100k Championships for 9 consecutive teams, placing in the top 3 for the USA team 8 times. Meghan still trains and races competitively and is an excellent example of longevity in our sport. I took the opportunity to ask her how she has managed to perform so well over so many years. Meghan's website is here
Occasionally I put out two podcasts, and this week is one of them! I am going to be posting a bonus episode! I feel a bit nervous about it, because the tables are turned and this time I am being interviewed. My good friend Nicole Kew (who I interviewed about Rhabdo) messaged me with the idea of interviewing me as she felt some people might be interested in my background and how I got into running. This is the first of two episodes we will do. This is more about my childhood and sports background to see how I got into running and how this all helped me develop mental strength. There will be more about mental strength and resilience in part two. I do hope you enjoy it!

Thank you so much for supporting my podcast! Rating, reviewing and sharing helps more people find the podcast and grows the audience. Which all helps when I’m contacting people to be interviewed!! You can also go my YouTube channel to see the video recordings of the podcast. With so many restrictions in place, it’s more important than ever to have a structured plan to ensure you maximise your training. Races will eventually return, but in the meantime there are many other challenges you can find, like planning an FKT! If you need an individualised plan, email me isobel@peakendurancecoaching.com.au to chat about a training plan. The YouTube channel to watch epsiodes is here.
Enjoy the interview with Meghan, I know I loved chatting with her!
