"For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters." (Romans 8:29)In this section of Scripture, the Apostle Paul is writing a letter to the Christians in Rome. The people of Rome worshipped lots of false gods, including the Roman Emperor. Since Christians refused to worship the Emperor, they experienced severe persecution from imprisonment to being burned alive. As you can imagine, these kinds of trials would be discouraging and terrifying. Paul reminds them that God is working out His very good plan through this. God has planned all along to adopt Him into His family and conform them to the image of His Son, Jesus, who also suffered the persecution of Rome even to the point of death. So we not only have a promise to cling to, but an example to look to in your trials today. Whatever they may be, fix your eyes on Jesus. He's where the joy is!
