About this ebook

Some are thinking patrolman Jones should have been promoted by this time. There are always budget questions, but money is never the issue when it should be done.
The way he is made aware of the upcoming exam’s is not the usual way. Reading it on the board, is the normal way.
He begins studying for them. It cuts into his movie time and other visits with detective Rage. But it does not interfere with his shooting date with her.
He is the top of the scores and the Chief of Police dresses him as a new sergeant should be. This promotion is a little unique. He becomes a patrol sgt and will still spend most of his time in his patrol car. Usually the new sgt is moved to a new area.
Why did Rage give Jones two Marine grade salutes outside her front door and they both turned and went their separate ways.
Several days later, the new sgt Jones is given rollcall duties and begins acting like a sgt. He is training in dispatch when speeding street racers causes one of them to crash and die. Jones issued some orders that later turn out to be the best possible. The accident lands in homicide detective Rage’s lap for more than a review.
How does a red-haired detective become a blond race driver of a muscle car which may be unbeatable?
The bookie hanging around the track may become the silent partner and car owner of the second fastest car until the fatal accident removes the fastest car up to that time.

    Chapter 1 The Exam

Samuel Ray Jones has been on the Seattle police force as a patrolman over six years. His badge number is 2603. During that time, he has proven himself to be decisive, hardworking and one of the few officers who shoots as well as Detective Rage.

Patrolman Samuel Jones is in his early 30’s, six-feet two inches, a rock if you were ever to bounce into him. He is bright and a quick study. He wanted to get into the Seattle SWAT unit, but it was full and had a waiting list. The smaller cities around Seattle either had no SWAT unit or they did but their pay was poor. He decided he would pay his dues while being a Patrolman in Seattle. The ladies say he is a fine looker in his uniform. He never talks about his service on a Navy Seal team because it was all classified. The SWAT leader wanted him, but the list is the list.

He is one of a very few single patrol cars, most have two Patrolmen in each patrol car. He has assisted the Strong Homicide team on several cases. He and Detective Rage have a standing ‘shooting date’ every Saturday.

When Patrolman Samuel Jones comes in at the start of his shift, and he is told he has an assignment with the Strong detective team, he is ready, whatever it is.

It is most unusual, but the Chief of Police Anderson appears at the morning patrol roll call.

Chief can we be of any assistance? The patrol sergeant asks.

No, I was on my way to my car and happen to be passing by. It brings back memories when I was a rookie. I see you have the same wire basket I used. Carry on.

The Chief waits at the back of the room until roll call is over. The sergeant for the rollcall says, Patrolman Jones could I see you for a moment, it is a minor item.

While this is going on, the Chief stands at the door and shakes each patrolman’s hand and tells them, Thank you for your service.

He does the same for Jones being the last patrolman in the room as he leaves. The Chief continues to shake his hand as they walk into the garage.

The Chief says, Walk with me to my car. The Council gave me three new patrolmen. I ask for four. I am going to open a Sergeant’s position in patrol. I can then fill it with a new patrolman and get my four new officers. The exam notice will be posted today. You may wish to apply. The sergeant will still be in patrol, and their duties will change little. Have a safe day.

The Chief’s car pulls up, he gets in, and they drive away.

After his normal patrol on Friday he has his ‘standard movie date’ with detective Rage at her place.

Detective Janette Wanda Rage’s badge number is 7304. She had been a patrolman for several years. She was the first officer to carry a
