About this ebook

Miss GB graduates and takes a job at a federal think tank. Computers run the complex and follows everyone every minute they are on site.
A satellite has a problem, and it ends up on Miss GB’s desk.
In the smoky mountains a young lad is about to receive his first gun, passage to manhood. Granny is nearing 100 years and readies herself for a time of conjuring. When conjuring, every living thing stays away from Granny and her conjuring shed. It has been passed down mother to daughter for as long as the mountains have stood.
Granny wraps herself in her shawl and vail for weeks as she is conjuring. Her closest blood daughter is not a direct blood line woman to woman. She fears the conjuring will be lost. Many times, Granny comes to tears as she goes back in her conjuring.
The federal complex with Miss GB is having its shields penetrated and she is not sleeping well.
And what of the complex part of Quantum Mechanics that physics throw away because they cannot measure the square root of -1.
Is Granny forced to pass some of her conjuring to other hill women to keep it from being lost?

Chapter 1 Starting a New Job

Miss GB graduated in pure mathematics with a second Doctorate in applied mathematics from Western Tech.

Her total jobs offers were small but in good standing. She decides on an obscure ‘think tank’ she never even applied for. A friend of a friend and the unusual pair of degrees led to the offer. Having nothing to tie her to anyplace she decides to fill out their paper work and see how it goes. The offer did not state what she would be working on. But after passing the deepest security check possible, she decides to accept.

The first day she drives to the address in Maryland.

Seeing the complex, she thinks, ‘my, a rather large covered parking for such a small building. They said I would see a parking place in the first row with my name on it. It is right next the main entrance.’

The temporary sign with her name duct taped to it tells her, ‘this is a one-time thing.’ She gets out of the car and does not bother to lock it. If a teenager had a bike, he would bypass her old car. She goes to the door that says entrance, she pushes and then pulls on the door, but it will not open?

A guard appears and opens the door, Sorry Miss. I had to leave my post for a minute and I have to lock the door.

She says. No problem. I am here to see...

But the guard finishes her sentence, We are expecting you Miss. Please come this way to admin. They will set you up.

Walking down the hall, she sees no door is open.

She thinks to herself, ‘there are two guards at the entrance, why lock the door if one leaves? Besides the reflection in the glass had both guards there when I pulled in! He did not re-lock the entrance when he came with me down this hall. That leaves the one guard at the front door? This does not make much sense."

They come to the door marked, Admin. The guard knocks and waits. The door opens but not before she counts to eight very slowly.

The middle-aged women in the door way smiles, Thank you Sergeant. Please come in and have a seat.

In eight counts the woman is back in her chair. She smiles again and can see the question on GB’s face.

She answers it, Yes, the door was locked. I had not bothered to unlock it yet. I sense you are wondering what time I arrived here to still not have unlocked the door! From your survey of the room you see no file cabinets, unusual for an administrator’s office.

She continues, But never mind, your section chief is almost here.

In 10 seconds, the door opens, in walks an older man, maybe late 50’s. He goes right to the new hirer.

He says as he offers a handshake, Welcome Miss. I will explain about this place. Your badge and office are ready for you, if you will follow me. Thank you, Mrs. KT.

Walking down the hall, he tells the new hire, Everyone calls me JD. We will stop at my office for a short time. I will give you an over view of how we work around here and several items you may choose to work on. If you find nothing interesting, then your private research is fine, until something else comes along. Here is my office.

He opens the door offering her a chair, I have your badge here.

She looks at her badge, This badge picture has what I am now wearing! I bought this outfit with the advance they sent me just yesterday.

JD gets half a question on his face, "You are wondering about the badge? This
