Michelle Southern is a novelist, currently earning her Creative Writing for the Entertainment B.F.A. at Full Sail University. Her writing career began when she started journalism at Vidor High School where she wrote for the school newspaper and yearbook. She is projected to graduate Fall 2019. She writes both fiction and non-fiction. Her most recent publication is a self-published book titled, I've Always Wanted to do This. Her first published short story was in the Scarlet Leaf Review, December 2017 issue. As Director of Marketing at Rio Brazos Distillery, she has learned how to creatively tell a story with not only words but also images. Her adventures while traveling have given her a wide variety of source materials for her future books. A blogger, she has written instructional articles on paper crafts and artwork. In addition, she has written newsletters for the Wichita Falls Wildcats Booster Club, Yokota Middle School PTO and her home-based businesses.

    As Jason and Anna ride the shaky elevator up to their floor, he is thinking about how precious the little bit of father/daughter time they get actually is. He wishes he could see her more often. This new job will help get him in a better position to care for his daughter. The elevator jolts and he once again is bothered by the lack of an elevator inspection certificate. The flickering lights aren’t as troubling as the high-pitched squeaks and the low-toned groans as the elevator starts moving faster. Surely, the landlord knows it is a requirement to make sure these things are safe. The inspection date on the certificate inside the door displays the date in pastel, faded writing.
