About this ebook
These two books cover the little-known history of Roma where their records were lost or never recorded. Even oral tradition is lacking.
The first book is when Roma was small but growing.
The Road North First Step is when the Roman Empire’s total army was about 10 legions. There is a desperate need to expand the road north through land not Roman to Port Quid on the northern sea. Goods can be moved to Rome during the winter storms. Some welcome the road through their lands, others do not. The issue will be forced with Roman legions. When the road is secure, what of the huge unknown land east of the large river? No one seems to venture there for any reason. The locals say the land is forbidden, nothing good will come of going there. Are the several Roman legions in the valley enough to conquer this new land? What did the Romans find as they collected the booty from the battlefield and sent to Roma? Someone in the forbidden lands is requesting certain booty be returned to them. Why do these people think the Romans would return any booty taken from the battlefield? What do they have to trade in return? Will a local rebellion in the just conquered large valley close the road to the northern sea?
A strange boat on the dividing river delivers people from the forbidden lands dressed as bears to meet with the commanding Roman general, which they call by his name. The person from the boat removes a complete bear head. She is a large blond woman reported to have blood dripping from her lips and fingernails. Also blood smeared on her cheeks. Will the Romans return her sword and at what price?
The second installment is when Roma is mature, larger, and no one dares to go against her legions.
The Road North Expansion is 100 years later after the First Step. The current emperor in Roman wishes to expand in every direction. He now commands nearly 50 legions, roughly 500,000 troops. His scribes few but mice nibbled manuscripts of the forbidden land east of the mighty river in the north valley. Although everyone says there is a treaty not to go there; it can’t be found. He sends four legions north to peacefully or by force take this land. He is warned by written messages, but it is 20 days of continual horse back to move messages to Rome from the north valley. Is he being told of events before they occur? The Emperor ignores a message, ‘three of the four legions being sent will never reach the north valley nor taste the iron of the sword.’ Enraged, he sends his Proconsul who is also the Chief of Staff of all legions. The Emperor sends another 10 legions with more on the march to the north valley. He will not be stopped.
The people in the forbidden lands finally offer the Romans to meet them in battle. The Romans may select the battlefield and time. The Emperor sends 5 more legions, nearly 50,000 troops north. The Roman Proconsul and general select the best battlefield to suit them and they will field nearly 100,000 men. The entire battlefield is empty and deserted. Their opponents send a single girl on a horse to greet the generals by name. As the sun rises the next day on the sunken battlefield, the two Roman generals look out over the field, as parts of it become visible with sun light. What do they see, do and why?
