About this ebook

Walking Dog, a member of the Go-Shoot Nation is found murdered off the reservation. They don’t want the FBI involved. Inspector Strong is given the case.
The Inspector must have the local police agency give him the case which they are happy to do. The Chief of the Go-Shoot Nation in their first meeting fails to give the Inspector the victim’s name or any evidence from his house. It takes a day before the Inspector is given the phone number of their police chief.
The victim’s job was to be the gopher for the Chief and Council. He had no authority in any matters. Rage finds evidence that the body was moved off the tribal lands.
The victim’s last assignment was completed a month ago. He was carrying papers between the Nation, the Railroad, and the builders of the fence around the Nation. After the fence was completed, he did go into the forest for some reason.
Rage and patrolman Jones starts a walk in the forest at the place he started at. They have nothing specific they are looking for. In the forest they are attacked and chased by armed men with machineguns.
The investigation uncovers Walking Dog’s love of old maps and books of the west. They were given no such material in any of the boxes from his house. What does that mean?
Will Detective Rage be putting any pencils in the ceiling during this case?

    Chapter 1 Take the Case

It is a typical day in Seattle. It is raining in the one city where very few people even own an umbrella, no less use it. But a few people will carry one in January, where it may rain 33-days straight. Even the ducks wear boots during this time.

The rain fall has been the normal four inches a month since January through April. The weather in Seattle has a few local descriptions that will mean something only to the locals. Such as, ‘occasional sun breaks’ means it will have intermittent showers. The ‘filtered sun’ means a continual mist will be falling. Partly cloudy means less than 1/4 of an inch of rain.

The temperature except in the summer will have the nighttime temperature within a few degrees of the daytime number. The most typical temperatures in the winter are 36 and 45 degrees, take your pick for day or night. The most typical non-summer temperatures are 60 and 69 degrees, take your pick for day or night. Summer is the last week in July and the first week in August. The temperature maybe from 70 to 99 degrees for the day time with the night time at 65 degrees. After several days of this, liquid sunshine will follow them. Lastly, no matter how much it rains there will never be a mud puddle for the kids to play in several hours later.

Inspector Strong is at his desk as he has been for the last 20-years. The Chief of Detectives Smart pokes his head in. We need to meet with the Chief. If you have time in fifteen minutes. I just got the invite. Fine. I will meet you there.

The Inspector’s name is Strong. Earl Strong, class of 1940, University of Texas. Early 60’s, what hair there is has been buzzed into a Crew cut. Always with a green felt 1940’s hat, brim bent down in front. A cigar his Dr. says he can chew but not smoke. A former Major in the military police.

Usually his detectives compile the data from the crime scene and then they poke it around some. He may read a particularly difficult case to assist them. His case closure for his section is a legend in the entire western half of the country. He has had many job offers to leave, even some at the federal level. His wife will never move and so he stays where he is. Seldom does any case withstand his personal assault for more than several days. He is a fishing buddy with the Regional FBI director, Ted McClearly.

Inspector Strong does not like his morning broken into while he still has two homicides open. He finishes the folder, grabs his hat, and heads up stairs.

Detective Rage and Detective Smith both notice from their desks that he is chewing harder on his cigar than normal. Their suspicions are aroused; he never puts his hat on if it is an internal working meeting; but they did see the Chief of Detectives arrive and leave quickly.

Inspector Strong arrives about thirty seconds before his boss does in the Police Chief’s reception area.

He hears, Good morning Inspector Strong, it will be just a minute.

She greets the Chief of Detectives and then says. Please go in, they are expecting you.

The Inspector follows his boss through the door as he removes his hat
