Introduction
Hello everyone! I’m Ritch Hall, clinical psychologist and the owner of PsychWorks Clinic LLC, and you’re listening to Why Therapy?: Opening the Door to Therapy and Leaving with a New Self-Image, a from Scribd. Thank you for joining me as we discuss the challenges and issues surrounding mental health and the ways to overcome them and get the help you need. We’ll discuss why someone would go into therapy, when is it the right time and what to expect from that first session.
No matter how you slice it, the idea of therapy may seem weird. How do you just unload personal thoughts and deepest feelings onto someone you don’t know well. Usually, when you are at the point where you think you need therapy, things might have gotten really bad.
We will also be talking about mental health stigmas and how they stop people from seeking solutions to their mental health. Society has spent a lot of time ignoring mental health issues. This means a lot of people are afraid to examine themselves so the mental health field is burdened with a lot of stigmas. Hopefully, this course will help you break down some of those stigmas and help you understand why you may need and can benefit from therapy.
