You just have to stop letting them control you."

    Introduction

Anxiety is a debilitating state of mind preventing you from reaching your ultimate potential. It is when that voice inside your head stops you from doing something you love or need to do. I have been there too. I suffered through anxiety for many years thinking that it would not end and I could not get better. However, you can control your anxiety to the point where it does not prevent you from living. You may have lost friends, family, and loved ones or even your job and livelihood because of the anxious thoughts locked up inside you. This does not have to be your story anymore. You can create a dramatic plot twist in the next chapter of your life and change your life around. I know this because it is exactly what I have done.

I am currently a kindergarten teacher who has suffered from anxiety since I was a teenager, and after years of having it control my life, I managed to take back control and change the trajectory of my life. When I thought I’d hit rock bottom and was going to fall even further, I was handed a lifeline. I began reading up on anxiety to understand what I was going through from a different perspective. That is the first time I could put words to my feelings and describe how I felt. It was also then that I realized I wasn’t alone in the struggles that I faced. Now I feel like it is my duty to pass that same message on to you so you can also understand anxiety and win this battle. You can take control of your emotions and get a grip on your life again. Having anxiety is not a life sentence filled with pain and despair; it is a completely manageable condition. For the five years that I have been studying my anxiety, I’ve been learning ways to manage my symptoms as well as their related consequences.

I have always been passionate about helping others, which has played a big role in my career as a teacher. It gives me great joy to watch my children grow and learn through any childhood difficulties, and I am always on hand to help when they cannot help themselves. My passion is to help an even wider circle of people, so I have decided to write this book. I want to reach out to others who are suffering, helping them learn to help themselves. Throughout this book, I will use my personal experience as a framework to show the reader how my own experiences are similar to others and shed light on how you can improve your standard of living in the same way.

I have a deep desire to extend my knowledge to you so that you, too, can live a full life again and rebuild the relationships around you, just as I have done. I cannot stress it enough that I have been in your shoes. Even though anxiety is different for everyone who experiences it, there are many common factors in those who feel its effects. I have pushed through and come out on the other side, and it is my absolute dream to help you do the same. I want everyone who has been crippled and knocked down by anxiety to be able to stand up and regain control of their lives and turn it into a happier and less stressful life. I will be detailing the ins and outs of anxiety in a way that you, the reader, will know that I have been where you are now, and most importantly that you also can be where I am now.

Anxiety does not have to be the final words of your story, and your life does not have to be one where you are constantly struggling through stress and worry and those nasty anxious thoughts. You can take hold of your mind and move beyond the concerning thoughts to a place where you can feel safe and free. I want to walk on this journey with you by walking you through the steps that I have taken to overcome my anxiety.

Firstly, I want to make sure you understand exactly what anxiety is because you may not fully know all the functions that your body processes when you feel anxious. So, we first need to determine if you have an anxiety disorder and which one it could be. Knowing your diagnosis, whether it is a professional one or a knowledge-based self-diagnosis, will help you to decide on your next steps. This is also helpful if you know someone else who could have some form of anxiety. This will help you to understand better what they are going through and how you can help them.

Once you know what type of anxiety you have, you should then take a moment to self-reflect and discover why you feel anxious and what the root cause of these feelings may be. Knowing the source is necessary for finding the solutions. I will then teach you the good stuff—learning how to deal with anxiety, discovering medical and alternative treatment options, and understanding more about some of my favorite tools that helped me along the way. Finally, I will talk about how anxiety can affect your relationships. I have learned that anxiety does not only affect the person suffering, but it can also take an immense toll on the people around you.

My anxiety has destroyed too many relationships around me for me to think otherwise. Knowing what I know now, I have been able to rebuild a lot of those connections and determine which relationships are better left broken. I hope that I can help you prevent these troubles by sharing my knowledge with you, and if you have already lost some relationships, I hope to help you fix them. My goal is that my personal experience can motivate and guide you into becoming mentally healthier and stronger so that you can start to live the life that you deserve to live—the life that anxiety has already taken too much time away from. Come on this journey with me, and let’s say good riddance to anxiety together.

    Chapter 1: Understanding Anxiety

Anxiety is a common term used in societies across the world. Many people use the word anxious to describe the feeling they get during a stressful situation or when they are feeling worried. While this term is commonly used in normal situations, there is a distinct difference between feeling anxious and having an actual anxiety disorder that disrupts your daily life.
