Introduction
Hello everyone! I’m Brooke Lavelle, and this is The Courage of Care: Rethinking Love & Compassion,
a course from Scribd. Thank you for joining me.
For some time now, our society has been facing a crisis of connection. Polarized and polarizing politics, rising nationalism, exploitation of people, and the degradation of our environment all share the same root — a profound sense of separation from each other and the Earth.
We need to respond to these crises of connection as if our lives and the lives of our children depend on it — because they do. And we need to respond in ways that draw upon and center our natural capacity for love and compassion, so that, at the very least, we do not perpetuate the very crises we wish to address.
We need to reclaim a commitment to the we,
grounding our hearts, our work, and our movements ever more in an ethic of care.
That’s why I’ve created this course. In order to even begin to move our world towards healing, we must first reconnect with love, compassion and care.
This course is designed to present a model of care that may be unfamiliar to many people. By changing the way we think about love, compassion
