Introduction
Hello everyone! I’m Kathy Washburn, and this is The Power of Positivity: Skills to Help You Live More Positively,
a course from Scribd. Thank you for joining me. Let’s begin.
In a world filled with triggers that put us in a state of emotional inflammation it’s difficult to navigate each day without being severely impacted. So, what is emotional inflammation? It’s a physiological and emotional state where you constantly feel you’re on edge, or have dreadful thoughts, are angst-ridden, hyper-reactive, or hyper-vigilant about what’s going on in the world.
This state is called emotional inflammation because the consistent flow of cortisol going through your body causes a cascade of inflammatory issues. Your blood pumps harder and your blood pressure increases. Your muscles tense and your heart and breathing rate skyrocket. The changes to your physical state can lead to insomnia, a heightened response to pain, problems staying focused, digestive issues, headaches, and more.
That’s why I’m honored to have you here and share information that will help us all deal with emotional inflammation as we move through today’s world. Consider this a safe space with the intention to teach and help you explore the Power of Positive, or POP for short.
While there’s a plethora of positive emotions, there are ten that have been widely researched. In this course we’re going to focus on the first three emotions on that list: Joy, Gratitude and Serenity.
It’s important that we bring these emotions into our lives intentionally, and I’ll show you a few ways to do just that. We’ll also explore ways to share what we’ve learned in our own circles of influence.
By the end of this course, you’ll have tools to assist you with recognizing and understanding the power emotions have by learning about the evolutionary function of our emotions. You’ll be able to identify the different ways that positivity contributes to your happiness, success and with building stronger relationships. You’ll also know how to effectively raise your own positivity ratio and emotionally rescue yourself.
The information I’ll be sharing is evidence based and well supported by research on
