    Introduction

Hello, and welcome to Mental Self-Mastery: Training Your Brain for Improved Emotional Resilience, a course from Scribd. I’m Matt Bodnar. Thanks for joining me.

We all experience uncomfortable emotions. But often, the ways we deal with them aren’t productive.

When we don’t handle negative emotions properly, we create larger problems for ourselves in the future. In this course, I will share what exactly negative emotions are, how and when to listen to them, and how to cultivate emotional agility.

We’ll examine the relationship between negative emotions and mental toughness, what negative emotions are not, and why you should learn to listen to and handle those emotions. We’ll also cover the difference between the conscious and subconscious mind and how to listen to your subconscious mind, how to recognize your emotions, how to retrain your brain away from false beliefs, and how to cultivate emotional agility.

While many of us have been led to believe that thinking positively is the answer to all of our problems, there are dangers within the positivity mindset, especially when we start to live lives not aligned with our values. You’ll leave this course with tools to cultivate emotional agility so that your emotions are not your master.

Before we get started, I’d like to share a bit about myself

I’m an entrepreneur and investor in Nashville, Tennessee, and am obsessed with the mindset of success and the psychology of performance. I’ve read hundreds of books and conducted countless hours of research and study. I also host a podcast, The Science of Success, with more than 800,000 downloads and listeners in over 100 countries.

In this course, I am going to take you on a journey into the human mind and what makes peak performers tick, with the focus on rooting the information in psychological research and scientific fact, not opinion.

When you’re ready, read on to the next unit to get started.
