    Introduction

    Hello‌ ‌everyone!‌ ‌I’m‌ ‌Michael Chernow‌, ‌and‌ ‌this‌ ‌is‌ ‌The Power of the Pause: Communicating to Build Better Relationships in Business and Your Personal Life,‌ ‌a ‌course‌ ‌from‌ ‌Scribd‌.‌ ‌Thank‌ ‌you‌ ‌for‌ ‌joining‌ ‌me.‌ ‌

When you’re running a business, there are always going to be a number of different things you need to focus on at a given time. Whether it’s operations, finance, product, or something else, sometimes it’s difficult to determine what your number one priority should be. While, of course, each of those areas of business is important — and your priorities are likely to shift based on what’s going on — I believe that the most important priority, the driving force behind all other decisions, is building relationships.

    I’ve spent decades building businesses.

When I was in my mid-twenties, I opened up my very first restaurant, the Meatball Shop, in New York City. It quickly expanded to eight different locations, and more restaurants and businesses followed shortly after.

Along the way, one of the most important things I learned was that the business of business is relationships, and that the foundation of relationships is trust.

The business of business is not dollars and cents. It’s not operations and logistics. Those things are important, but long-term success is all about how many great relationships you have, whether that’s with your partners, with your vendors, with your employees, or with your customers. Developing relationships is everything.
