Introduction

Hello everyone! I’m Tanya Dalton, and this is Navigating Uncertainty: How to Embrace the Unknown and Live to Tell the Story, a course from Scribd. Thank you for joining me.

I am a planner, and hopefully, if you’re listening to this course, that sounds familiar. I like to plan for everything, even the unknowns, to the best I can. I like to control my controllables, but sometimes, I realize that’s not possible. Uncertaintainty and the unknown are inevitable parts of life, and how we react to these situations helps us move forward. It shows us more about our true character and who we are as people, so it’s important to really understand our reactions and how we can influence them.

So, how well do you handle uncertainty in your life? Do you panic? Double down on your current path? Or do you take a step back from the situation and approach it with a fresh perspective? Ask others for help? Maybe it’s a mixture of all of these, or it varies depending on the situation, and you know what? That’s okay!

We’ve all been in a position where we devised the perfect plan only to have it completely fall apart. The truth is that even the best-laid plans never work out exactly as you believe they should. While it’s completely normal, it can be extremely frustrating - and it isn’t always easy to recover from, especially if we’ve spent a lot of time and energy planning only for it to fall through at the last minute.

So how do we plan if the plan feels like it’s constantly changing? The most important thing you can do is to give yourself grace as you adapt, and in this course, you’ll learn how to do just that and more.

We’ll cover how to plan with a vision in mind, accounting for the flexibility and grace we need to recover from setbacks and move forward with a clear path ahead.
