Having said that, the typical diet of a Japanese person is still significantly better for them than the typical diet of a person living in a Western country, both in terms of the total amount of food they consume and the percentage of their diet that is comprised of foods high in carbohydrates, foods high in vitamins, and foods high in protein. When compared to people in the United States, for instance, we consume a lot less food on a daily basis, and the evidence of this can be seen in the proportions of the servings offered at fast food restaurants. In Japan, the majority of meals, regardless of whether they are breakfast, lunch, or dinner, include at least one serving of vegetables.
