Description

At this moment I'm sitting in front of a mountain, Carson peak to be exact, in Mammoth California. I'm doing this because I needed space.  I look back at the last eight years, nine years of my career, I look at where I've "failed," where I've "succeeded," where things have felt easy, where things have felt hard. If I leave the path of clues on the table like they are, and I observe them all the ease came from doing less with more. All the ease came from filling my tank. First. All the ease came from having tight containers and meticulous attention to detail and self-respect, but not self-respect in the lens of, I love myself. I did this right, or my output was good, or the results I created were good, but self-respect from the place of, I make my word to myself and I keep it. I made a commitment that I was only going to work until 5:30. So at 5 I started wrapping for the day and making my list. Then at 5:30 computer shut, phone away, email off. When I made a commitment to get up at 6:00 AM. The alarm went off and I got up, even if it hurt, even if I was tired, even if I was scared or anxious or afraid, I kept my word to myself. See when I look back at my life to where I was almost bankrupt multiple times to where I had businesses that I built to go from profitable to losing $40,000 a month and me keeping them for a year while I justified it. To where I struggled with my weight to where I struggled with business to where I felt like I never had enough time in the day to where I felt like there was always too much and the world was against me and all these tasks were stacked up and I had to do this and I had to do that. If I really think about it now, and I look back. It was because I didn't keep my word to myself, and so I'd start my day distracted and triggered and reactive. I'd wake up in the morning and the first thing I would do is pick up my phone and I would see what the world wanted of me rather than making a commitment to who I wanted to be in the world that day. I'd respond, I'd react. I'd let it get into me and I'd literally be six 30 in the morning and on my day felt ruined and it went on for the entire time because nine one one alarm. You didn't do this, you did this. You're measured by this, your values here, but all of it was bullshit. I was basically using the outside world to self sabotage myself. And so when I say the biggest mistake that I see entrepreneurs and business owners and people in life make is that we don't keep space for ourselves. And I'm not here to project on you and to tell you how your business is or how your life is. I can only speak for mine, but I had to have a deep conversation with myself and I'd ask myself, why? Why was I afraid to create space? Why was I afraid to maintain space? Why was I afraid of the nothingness? And this hit me on a meditation a couple of weeks ago. It's because without the distractions of the busy work and the to do list and the family and the friends and the business, I had to be in a relationship with the one person that I didn't like and I didn't know how to be. And that was being in a relationship with myself. And it's an art and a science and a journey to be able to have space to, to come out here and to turn around. And if you're listening to this, you're missing a 13,000 majestic peak behind me as I record this and the cold air getting my cold therapy while I record a podcast or a video. But I never took the time to do this. I never took the time to just sit, to sit and to, to study my hands and to feel what that cool air feels like on my shins right now, and to feel the numbness in my fingertips and to be present and listen. Presence isn't Facebook. Presence is an Instagram presence isn't Twitter. Presence is an emails. Present isn't phone calls present isn't distraction. And doing this presence is. Is creating space and being able to just sit and I made meditation wrong my whole life. I made space wrong my whole life, but really I was just making wrong what
