5 Days to a Healthy Life - Barbara Maida
Wikipedia definition of diet
Diet is the sum of food consumed by a person. Dietary habits are the habitual decisions an individual or culture makes when choosing what foods to eat. The word diet often implies the use of specific intake of nutrition for health or weight-management reasons (with the two often being related). Although humans are omnivores, each culture and each person holds some food preferences or some food taboos. This may be due to personal tastes or ethical reasons. Individual dietary choices may be more or less healthy.
Proper nutrition requires ingestion and absorption of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and food energy in the form of carbohydrates, proteins, vegetables, and fats. Dietary habits and choices play a significant role in the quality of life, health and longevity.
Choosing the foods we ate was a simple task and still is in many civilizations, what you ate was determined by the circumstances that you lived in.
Today food has become a complicated road to navigate. What do we eat to lose weight, to stay healthy, to insure the health of our families, to recover from an illness, to build our immune systems; I can go on and on.
We are overwhelmed with information, and commercials on what to eat.
I am going to try and make it simple, it is not rocket science, it is human nature. The first and primary focus is to eat whole natural foods, preferably organic.
This book contains a Five Day Diet along with alternative choices for Breakfast Lunch Dinner and Snacks.
I originally developed this simple program for women at a weight loss center that I owned. It would upset me to constantly see women dieting, counting calories, exercising and still not losing weight, most of the time they were eating empty calories (devoid of any nutritional value) and not eating enough protein or fat to sustain a healthy body.
The reason they did not lose weight was simply because they did not eat enough food, they did not give their bodies the nutrients necessary to lose weight, and stay healthy.
This Five Day Program is not just about losing weight. It is a guide to healthy eating, to show you how simple it is to eat a healthy diet, lose weight, and stay healthy.
Each day and eat segment (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks) has a complete nutritional analysis including calorie counts.
Calories are a guide to follow not just for weight loss. We need a certain amount of calories every day in order to stay healthy. When our body does not get enough of these calories from whole natural foods it will, overtime, begin to break down, and it will not allow you to lose weight.
Mother Nature still does know best. She will protect us from ourselves as much as possible. I assure you that following this program will help you to feel better, look better, have more energy and lose weight.
Suggestions for following this plan:
You have heard it before and I will say it again; You Need to Eat to Lose Weight
I do not want this to be complicated. Eating should not require constantly counting calories. I want this to be a simple way for the average person to switch from a low fat, calorie counting diet that deprives you of enjoying the pleasure of enjoying food.
Low fat diets should not be based on taking the fats out of our diet; it should be about reducing the amounts of fat that we eat. Eating foods in smaller portions and cutting out some of the high fat foods we eat and not try to eat the same foods, but without fat in. You need some fat, when they take fat out of a food they have to replace it with chemicals and sugars to make it taste good.
