I grew up in South Yorkshire, England, before emigrating to South Australia at the age of sixteen. My writing ambitions began as a child, when I became notorious in my class for writing short horror stories that would probably have them calling in the child psychologists nowadays! I have written everything from non-fiction ebooks to published short fiction, and served as script editor on two proposed horror feature film scripts for an LA based director. In terms of fiction I have written dozens of novellas, including more than 70 stories in the "Ian's Gang" sci-fi adventure series. I still live in Queensland, where I work as a freelance writer.

CHAPTER ONE

Hi Fae, Ian smiled warmly as Commander Fae Dupont stepped from the lift into the lounge of Ian’s Gang Base.

Ian, Fae nodded. Emma.

Hey, Emma smiled.

Wilburts was watching the three of them with a knowing smile even as the other gang members carried on their usual evening activities (i.e. arguing) regardless.

A-hum, Ian cleared his throat to get their attention. Everyone ignored him. Oy! he shouted.

The gang looked up finally. What is it? Matthew said irritably.

I – we – have an announcement to make, Ian told them. Wilburts noted that Emma looked as nervous as hell, while Fae remained as unflappably cool as ever. Ah, the French.

I just thought you ought to know that when we all set off for Zerroff tomorrow for Claire’s wedding, Fae will be joining us, Ian informed them.

I ‘ave managed to get a few days ovv, Fae proclaimed proudly.

What? Matthew squinted. Why? Claire didn’t invite her, did she?

Fae will be coming, Ian began, as my plus one.

That certainly got the gang’s attention.

What? Philip blinked. Why would she... you’re joking!

Philip actually gaped. "You and Fae? Seriously?!"

We are... involved, yes, Ian admitted.

When? Steve gaped.

"How? Philip wanted to know. Was there hypnosis involved?"

I suspect blackmail, Matthew muttered darkly. I’m just not sure on whose part.

Congrats, boss, Sean stood up and shook Ian’s hand with great enthusiasm. Oh and you too, Comma – er, Fae.

Zank you, Fae beamed.

I know you too have been spending a lot of time together lately, but I thought you were just hanging out, Philip seemed completely bewildered by this turn of events. I mean, Emma usually went out with you two. So when...?

Six weeks ago, actually, Ian clarified.

Six weeks? Philip gaped. And you’ve kept it quiet this long? I’d have been shouting it from the rooftops...er, I mean...
