The Nemesis

DI Isabel Blood stood at the edge of the crime scene with DS Daniel Fairfax, the newest member of Bainbridge CID.

“Ready to tackle your first murder investigation here in Bainbridge, Dan?” she said.

“Ready as I’ll ever be.” He smiled nervously as he pulled on gloves and protective shoe coverings. “I didn’t have to wait long, I’ll say that.”

The house they’d been called to was a sprawling 1930s semi in the leafiest and most salubrious part of town.

A female officer was on scene guard at the front door. “Ma’am; Sarge,” she said. “It’s through there, in the kitchen. Forensics are here already.”

“Who called it in?” said Isabel.

“The victim’s son-in-law, Colin Balderton. He’s in the living room, waiting to talk to you.”

‘The first officers on the scene found the son-in-law standing over the victim… with blood on his hands’

Isabel and Dan made their way along a wide hallway towards the kitchen.
