Ian Kidd

I grew up in South Yorkshire, England, before emigrating to South Australia at the age of sixteen. My writing ambitions began as a child, when I became notorious in my class for writing short horror stories that would probably have them calling in the child psychologists nowadays! I have written everything from non-fiction ebooks to published short fiction, and served as script editor on two proposed horror feature film scripts for an LA based director. In terms of fiction I have written dozens of novellas, including more than 70 stories in the "Ian's Gang" sci-fi adventure series. I still live in Queensland, where I work as a freelance writer.

    CHAPTER ONE

Commander Fae Dupont walked through the streets of Maltby with sure, purposeful strides. At twenty seven years old, the stunning French beauty could turn heads – male or female alike – with her sculpted good looks, thick lips, long blonde tresses and shapely figure. She could have been a model or an actress, but Fae had always wanted a career in the military and what Fae Dupont wanted, she got – her appointment as Maltby’s new Army Commander being just the latest case in point. She had only just achieved the rank of Commander, and to say Maltby was a plum assignment was putting it mildly these days. Nevertheless it was what she had wanted and thus it was hers, no matter how many noses of older, more seasoned officers it had put of joint. In fact, Fae could hardly stop smirking just at the thought alone. She had arrived at her new post the previous evening and had already introduced herself to her new department. There were a few obvious sceptics in the ranks, but Fae had no worries on that score. They would be whipped into shape soon enough – that, or gotten rid of. Fae prided herself on being good humoured to a point, but those who crossed her tended to live to regret it.

Now, as the morning sun burned high in the sky, it was time for Fae to introduce herself to a group of almost equal importance to her officers – Ian’s Gang. She had heard that the gang could be quite a trial to work with, being wilful and seemingly utterly undisciplined to the point of absurdity – particularly that Parker fellow – but Fae had no concerns there either. After all, there had been plenty who’d say the same about her too. Besides, she always did like a challenge.

Fae continued walking when a large placard outside a building caught her eye. Opening Soon the placard read in large white letters. The Intergalactic Troublemakers Detective Agency – the only place to turn if you’re in trouble or are trouble.

Fae stopped her in her tracks, reading and re-reading the sign with growing disapproval, her smirk being replaced by a frown. Oh, non, she shook her head.
