I grew up in South Yorkshire, England, before emigrating to South Australia at the age of sixteen. My writing ambitions began as a child, when I became notorious in my class for writing short horror stories that would probably have them calling in the child psychologists nowadays! I have written everything from non-fiction ebooks to published short fiction, and served as script editor on two proposed horror feature film scripts for an LA based director. In terms of fiction I have written dozens of novellas, including more than 70 stories in the "Ian's Gang" sci-fi adventure series. I still live in Queensland, where I work as a freelance writer.

CHAPTER ONE

It's certainly going to be secluded, isn't it? Cody Frid commented.

The chauffeur grunted.

The petite, pretty dark-haired teen was in the back of a big black limousine being driven through dense woods. You're not going to stop and take advantage of me, are you? Cody asked. The chauffeur turned and gave her a long stare before turning back. Cody frowned. It was just a joke, she sighed, watching the scenery. Y'know, I really can't believe this is happening. It's the first time I've ever won anything, you know?

Is that a fact? the chauffeur's tone indicated he couldn't have cared less.

First damn time, Cody babbled on, not really talking to the chauffeur, but just using him as a sounding board, and a holiday, no, a 'dream holiday', no less. Pretty amazing, don't you think?

Amazing, the chauffeur commented.

And in Corfu, of all places, Cody crowed. I guess I'm just lucky to be alive.

The chauffeur gave a tired, irritated smile. You don't know how much.

Cody just ignored him.

When are we going to begin? Sir Alfred Bates inquired.

When all the guests are here, the elderly, genteel Lord Worthington told him gently.

We are all here, Stewart Richardson, an angry-looking young man in a suit and tie, said.

Yes indeed, the somewhat stocky Sir Alfred boomed from underneath his less-than neatly trimmed moustache.

Not quite, Worthington smiled. There is one guest yet to arrive.

Who? Michael James, a man who would have looked out of place if ever caught without a drink in his hand, demanded.

Yes, who? Olivia Wilson, the young maid, asked.

Shut up, Michael snapped. You're paid to serve the drinks, not open your mouth.

Offended, Olivia swept out of the room.

I don't think that was absolutely necessary, Mr. James, Worthington cut in.
