I grew up in South Yorkshire, England, before emigrating to South Australia at the age of sixteen. My writing ambitions began as a child, when I became notorious in my class for writing short horror stories that would probably have them calling in the child psychologists nowadays! I have written everything from non-fiction ebooks to published short fiction, and served as script editor on two proposed horror feature film scripts for an LA based director. In terms of fiction I have written dozens of novellas, including more than 70 stories in the "Ian's Gang" sci-fi adventure series. I still live in Queensland, where I work as a freelance writer.

CHAPTER ONE

John Colinscare walked uncertainly into the subway.

At the far end, overhead lights revealed ten armed men.

The centre figure, a big, thuggish man named Snyder, the leader of this unsavoury bunch, stepped forward. Hi, John, he smiled.

H - hi, John stammered nervously.

Here for your money? Snyder asked innocently.

Yes, John nodded.

With slow, deliberate precision, Snyder drew a shotgun and fired.

John's left knee exploded and he collapsed onto the floor, sobbing.

You fucking idiot! Snyder hissed viciously. Did you think I wouldn't test those guns you gave me? They were defunct, John. The entire stack was fucking useless!

I didn't know, John sobbed through the pain.

Liar! Snyder rasped. You're working for the Nomads, aren't you John? Aren't you?!

Snyder fired again.

John's right knee blew off in a shower of blood.
