After a tap on the back door, my brother Kristaps’ voice floated through to the kitchen.
‘Hey sis, I’ve got biscuits. Get the coffee on!’ he called.
Just a kid himself, he’d sacrificed his childhood to raise me
Before I could reply, my three kids, then 7, 5 and 1, went flying in to greet their uncle.
They adored Kristaps as much as I did.
‘I’ve picked some shopping up for you,’ Kristaps said, putting a bag on the counter and scooping his niece and nephews into a hug.
It was an afternoon
