Description

Today on Raising Healthy Mothers I'm addressing a question I'm often asked - 'What should I eat when I'm breastfeeding?' It's a really common questions pregnant and new mums ask me, not knowing that it's actually quite a complex answer.   Although a seemingly innocuous question, what underlies it is doubt in their body’s ability to know how and how much milk to produce. I find this sad because it hints at the lack of confidence women have in themselves and lack of wisdom that should have been passed down from past generations of mothers and grandmothers about breastfeeding.   So in today's episode I'm covering: Why you probably don't need to worry about your supply How breastmilk is made and how breastfeeding works Whether what you eat matters Specific nutrients that you might need to consider to support breastfeeding By the end of the episode you'll know what types of foods you might like to include in your daily diet during pregnancy and after giving birth - and the signs to look out for that might tell you things aren't going as well as they could. Episodes and blogs mentioned: How to Optimise a Plant-Based Diet in Motherhood {S3E3} Why Vitamin D is Important for Mothers and Babies {S1E7} What to Eat for Breastfeeding Success (blog) Join the waiting list for my upcoming Mindful Breastfeeding and Nutrition Antenatal Course

Raising Healthy Mothers is a podcast for mothers, whether you're pregnant, just given birth, or are two years postpartum. If you’re looking for a natural, calm, healthy start to motherhood and you’re after some inspiration to help you get started, then you’re in the right place. I believe the first 1000 days of motherhood - from conception to 2 years postpartum - is vitally important to get right from a health point of view. But it's so easy to get overwhelmed! This podcast is about feeling supported and crafting your very own village so you can embrace motherhood with confidence and joy. Each week I focus on a topic that I think is important for a mothers’ health and wellbeing, and I’ll be bringing guest experts on to talk about how they support new mothers.
