Today we are sitting down with women’s fitness specialist Colin Jackson and talking about all things women’s fitness and hormones, how to work WITH your hormones to support your body and find the correct physical exercises to support you - and not overwhelm you OR your schedule. Colin shares WHY he focuses on helping women over 35, why hormones and nutrition are the building blocks of fitness for women, his deep dive of hormones and peri-menopause and the importance of using a holistic health lens.
We talk about where and how the fitness industry is failing women, why weight training is key for women over age 35, the importance of rest periods, when to incorporate high intensity cardio and why it’s impactful to keep it short and sweet. Colin shares about all things protien - the importance of getting enough protein, how much we actually need ( spoiler - it’s alot!) and why as women we need to prioritize getting enough. We cover the differences of protein needs in women during the different phases of our cycles, the direct relationship protein intake has with cortisol, and how we can increase our protein intake easily.
Colin openly shares about the impact his childhood had on his life, growing up in a dysfunctional home, experiencing emotional neglect and physical abuse, the impact of generational trauma and why ( and how) he is choosing to break the cycle. We talk about he tools he uses to support himself in his healing and growth, why it is so important to heal trauma stored in the body, and why and when he intentionally uses psilocybin in his spiritual practice.
PLUS: The difference between managing stress and dealing with the stress in your body ( aka the external forces causing you stress and how it feels in your body), what perimenopause IS, the symptoms and indications that come along with, letting go of “all or nothing” thinking, keeping it SIMPLE to stay consistent.
