Description

Today, we all need a pep talk!  Don’t you think? Things are really hard right now. This pandemic has been going for a few months, and we’re not done yet. We don’t know what’s going to happen next. This situation has thrown our lives into a tailspin, and our brains don’t like it.
Here’s the deal: Your brain is set up to keep you alive. Safe.
Change?
The great unknown?
Oh no, no, no.
Brain doesn’t like it.
A lot of how we’re feeling is because our brain is responding to what feels like a pretty unsafe situation. Our brains are very resistant to change and uncertainty. Our brains are like, “when are things going back to normal?”
But there is no normal anymore. We have to create a new normal.
Today, I want to tell you that you can get through this, and I can too.
Here’s a few things that can help us all:
· Take a break from media. Following every single detail about what’s happening is not helpful, so maybe take a little break. After that, monitor your news feed and your use of social media. Do you need to know every little thing or do you just need to know the big things? Maybe you could check every few days or just once a day.
· Be present. Try to come into your life and what is actually happening. You may start to notice areas that need some change or growth and you can start to work on those things. If your kids are dysregulated, it is probably due to the lack of structure that frankly even some of us grown-ups are missing right now. So just know that’s a part of it. Be connected and present with the people in your life. And yourself…which brings me to the next point.
· Are you taking good care of yourself? Are you saying nice things to you? Because you need to pep talk yourself through this thing. You’ve got this.
In the end it will help if we can all keep things simple. Move out of the need to know what might or might not happen next, and come on into your life for a few days and see how that feels. And I know that some of you are like, oh, come on, Rebecca, it’s easier said than done. And yes, it is easier said than done. But it’s not that you can’t do it.
Because here’s the thing.
You can grow. You can be insightful. You can be present in your life and affect change. Bit by bit, you can be incredibly constructive.
Take really good care of yourself this week. I’m here for you.
