Will

Will ran toward the building where Evelyn and Lisa were waiting. He could hear Courtney running behind him. The shooting was still ongoing, and he could see Mike running in with the other cops to salvage the situation. Will was not sure what to make of the sudden turn of events, but he was certain he needed to get to Evelyn before things got out of hand; not like things weren’t already out of hand.

A bullet brushed past his leg, and he winced in pain, falling to the grass. Courtney joined him, pulling him gently with her, as they crawled their way to the iron door that was already in sight. Will knew he was losing blood, but he was not giving in to the feeling in his head. It was spinning, and everything was becoming blurry.

Come on, man. Don’t you dare sleep on me! Courtney yelled. Three consecutive rounds of gunshots accompanied her voice as it filtered into Will’s consciousness.

Will drew in a deep breath and mustered enough courage to keep his eyelids from closing. Courtney’s flared hips became clearer in his vision. She was pushing the door open while shielding her face; at least, that appeared to him to be what she was doing. Will’s eyes turned to the window, and he panicked when he saw the hole in it. Tiny bits of glass were scattered around the floor below the window.

Will groaned just as the door was pulled open from inside. Courtney turned to help him inside the room. Lisa’s face was laced with fear. Will thought that was what her restless-looking eyes showed.

Evelyn? Will asked in a barely audible voice.

Lisa sniffled. We’ve got to get her to a doctor.

Will was going to say something when Lisa suddenly cried out. She was just noticing the trail of blood. Will followed her eyes. He probably shouldn’t have. His head suddenly started to spin again, and an alarm went off in his head. He was losing the battle again.

The shooting outside ceased, but the throbbing in his leg made it seem like the shooting was now inside his head. The door was pushed open, and Mike stepped in. His eyes fell on Will. The latter made out the blurry face of his friend.

Oh, my God! Will! I’ll call an ambulance!

Evelyn… Will called out weakly.

God! It’s a pile of bodies here. What happened to her? Will was too tired to look up and see whoever Mike was talking about. He kept calling for Evelyn, but no one was listening to him. He was beginning to feel his anxiety weighing him down. Nobody was listening to him.
