Marci

Pick up the damn phone, Mama!

He looked up from the screen, shaking his head, and hissing in frustration. He wanted to reach out to his mom and tell her to remain at the safe house he had kept her in. She was a stubborn one, this old woman, and he got that from her as well. He wondered if she even stayed behind at the safe house. She always had a way of meandering past the guards.

He tsked, staring at the entrance of the brothel. He wondered what was taking Adrian so long to come out. The plan was to go in, get the girl, fish out the lover boy, and end his life. He had wanted to lead the men inside, but Adrian had come with all the talk of wanting to win this one for his family. Marci knew what family meant, so he was more than obliged to let the boy lead.

Three gunshots rang out clearly in the air, and a shrewd smile took over his countenance. That’s just about the right thing to do! The boys should be hurrying back now before the authorities are alerted. He started the car and rolled slowly toward the mouth of the brothel. That would make it easier to extract the team and zoom off.

Marci frowned when no one exited the building after the first five minutes. He picked up his radio and turned on the transmission switch.

Ad, I’m ready. Where’s the team?

The wave fluttered, and silence followed. A worried frown crossed his face as he saw women rushing out of the brothel, scurrying away to safety. Marci groaned.

He’s messed up the plan! Marci grunted as he reached into the car’s compartment and pulled out a gun, simultaneously pushing the door open, and stepping out.

The women, bumping into him, screamed at the sight of the gun. He pushed them roughly to the side, making his way through the entrance. The first body he saw made him wince. His man! Another lay in front, and the last in front of a door that was wide open. Marci scouted the area, barging into the room, and getting a truckload of curses from disturbed affairs.

There was no sight of the girl, the boyfriend, or Adrian. Marci gritted his teeth in anger, moving quickly toward the redhead behind the front desk. He put the gun to her head and cocked.

Where did they go?

She whimpered and pointed him toward a narrow passage. He signaled to her to lead the way. The lady shook in fear as they walked down the passageway to a small exit door.

Where does this lead? Marci asked, nudging her to open the door.
