    Hello, I’m Andrew Chapman, and this is The Path to Happiness: Buddhist Insights for Wisdom and Clarity, a course from Scribd. Thank you for joining me.

    Buddha’s teachings are very experiential. In this world, we are so used to talking about and studying ideas, concepts, philosophies, and theories. The Buddha’s way, however, is to gain knowledge from doing rather than knowing. I personally feel very fortunate to have learned Buddhist practices from a teacher who taught what I call blue-collar Dharma. He took the experiential part of Buddhism very seriously.

    In this course, I want to share with you the tools and strategies that the Buddha lays out for us to find happiness.

    Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s in store. In the first unit, we’ll talk about how to see clearly and respond wisely to the things we experience. This helps us find longer-lasting and deeper happiness.

    Then, we’re going to talk about the Eightfold Path, which is a map for how we can find that deeper happiness.

    In the third unit, we’ll cover how to train the mind through mindfulness and the purpose of it according to Buddhist practices.

    Lastly, we’ll look at the Four Noble Truths and the tasks they present each of us on our journey to find wisdom, clarity, and happiness.
