The Story Briefly

Sapphire was a twenty four years young, beautiful and intelligent girl who borne in a very rich family. But..........

She tried to kill her grandfather when she was sixteen years old.

She tried to kill her mother when she was twenty four years old.

She tried to kill her father after one month or so of her attempt to kill her mother.

She did not know why she was feeling that much of anger and hatred even to kill her own grandfather and parents.

Her childhood friend and wife of his brother ‘Tinny’, a psychologist also, tried her level best to know why Sapphire was behaving so and to get a change in her behavior. But when it was not possible, Sapphire was taken to Black Ant Mental Care where Tinny’s friend Rose was practicing as a psychiatrist.

There, the psychiatrists Rose and Charles, with the help of another psychiatrist Jake Richardson unearthed astounding facts.

Prologue

They both sat facing each other on the evening of that day, on the big boulder there, in their favourite place and he was observing her minutely. She was black in colour, aged twelve years and now quite far from her family. He did not know in full and she too did not tell him in full but her situation in her family was not good. But he knew that the different and difficult situation she was facing in her family made her come this far and sheltered herself with his grandmother and him.

Why you are looking at me so? her smile always appeared to him charming. Even she was black in colour, she was attractive. What is making you to look at me like this? I know that I am black just like my mother and not beautiful.

You may not be beautiful but you are quite good. I always like you Enna.  he smiled and said without altering his gaze from her face. You always be a good friend to me.

I am feeling so happy hearing you like this Jake. I am feeling so happy. Enna was made a throaty laugh. It was good to him to hear her laughing like that. He always wanted her to laugh so.  After a very long time I am feeling like this! Yes we both remain as good friends forever. I never need anything more than this.

He hissed out heavily before saying. So we both are good friends, are not we? looking straight into her face he asked her.

What type of confirmation you need? Tell me. While adjusting herself on the rock she sat, Enna said. She knew that boy was quite interested in knowing about her in full. But she did not want to tell her story in full to anyone. Even to her favourite grandmother Debra also, she did not choose to tell all that happened to her in that house.

I know your mother. He was saying with a small voice. I was just two or three years old when I have last seen her. But she liked me a lot and she played with me a lot. Even our association is so little, I liked your mother a lot and I am still liking her so. He paused for a moment before continuing. "Yes, you are right. You are just like your mother.

There was a sudden change in her. I don’t remember my mother even a little. I was just six months or so old by the time she died.

I know how your mother used to look after you. I was a small boy at that time but I do remember how she looked after you in those days. She loved you a lot. I don’t think ever any mother can love her child that much.

Involuntarily she laughed again. Her usual beautiful throaty laugh. You remembered all that which you saw thirteen years or so back! When you were just a two years child!

He breathed deeply and hissed out heavily. I am telling you the truth. Yes, I was a small boy then, but I saw that, I understood that and I can remember it.

Alright, alright. Enna nodded her head.

Tell me Enna. How you were treated in your father’s house? They did not treat you well, is it is not so? he was still looking into her face and she was feeling uncomfortable. Your father completely changed after marrying that rich girl.

She sharply looked into his face. Stop all this. I don’t want to discuss any of that here now. She was feeling irritated.

But Enna...Jake said with a firm voice. We are good friends. Friends should share their matters with each other even it is uncomfortable sometimes.

No, there is nothing to share about that with you. She said with a small voice. But I am often remembering my little brother Rony. He was just two years old. I played with him and looked after him while I was there. I want to see him very much.  

Do you go there again to see your brother Rony?

No, I never do go there again. Enna said with a firm voice. There would not be any problem to him. He is the son of very rich parents. He does not need me. Then she got off from the rock. Shall we go home now? It is becoming too dark. I don’t want to stay here now.

As you wish. Jake also got off from the rock. You have to sleep early and wake up early in the morning. We must not stop adoring Ayoma after starting.

Oh, it is becoming too difficult for me to wake up in the early morning. Should I continue adoring Ayoma?

You must Enna. I said to you already. It is dangerous stop adoring Ayoma after starting. He once again observed Enna from head to foot and said Ayoma is liking you Enna. Ayoma has special interest in you. For certain reasons, Ayoma shows interest like that only on few people. If those people adore him carefully, it blesses them with marvelous powers.

Fox head, frog belly and human body, Ayoma always appears to me quite funny. Enna once again laughed mellifluously.

Ayoma is never funny. It is very serious. Ayoma is very serious in giving marvelous powers and taking revenge also. Jake paused for a moment and then said. You never regret adoring Ayoma Enna. Ayoma shall be quite helpful to you in many a way.

Alright then. Shall we go home now? I have to sleep early to wake up early. Showing enthusiasm Enna said.

They both started walking towards their home in the suburbs of that village. But grandmother is not liking much your adoring Ayoma.

That is the one reason why I am not interested in adoring that Ayoma. Enna said with a small voice. I don’t want to make grandmother feel bad for any reason.

But Ayoma is liking you Enna. You saw the glistening in its eyes when you are near to it. I am so much interested in adoring Ayoma. But there would not be much use in adoring Ayoma if it is not liking us. You are quite fortunate.

But you are also adoring some bad angels, are not you? Enna said. They sure do give you some powers.

They already gave me some powers. With a proud voice Jake said.

What you already have been blessed with some powers? with amazement in her voice Enna asked him.

Once we are in the home, I do show some of my powers. Looking into her bewildering face Jake said.

I am very much interested in seeing those powers. Better we do go home fast. Started walking fast from that place Enna said.   

It was indeed a very big palace but it cost little in that small and faraway village. They both settled in the wooden chairs inside the house. Now show me your powers. With the same excitement in her face she asked him.

Are not we suffocating without air here? I open the windows without moving from this place. Looking straight at the closed windows there he said. 

Enna remained looking amazingly while the doors of the windows were opening slowly. I can do small things like these with the small powers I have got. He said.

Really amazing! Wonderful! clapping her hands Enna said.

You can do a lot, lot and lot if you are blessed with powers by Ayoma. Observing the happiness in her Jake said.

Then I sure continue adoring Ayoma. I really like to have all those powers. Her voice was with full of interest and happiness.

There was silence as both of them did not know what to talk then. Grandmother and I both shall be absent from here for two days after next Sunday. Can you manage yourself here all by yourself?

What is the problem? I do happily manage myself.  Don’t worry about me at all.

Alright then.

Once again silence ensued.

Chapter-1

They sat in the hall sipping tea and looking into each other’s faces with smiles on their lips. I know a day like this come in our lives. Anthony said. "We reached the highest position and we are the number one now. My confidence on Donald hundred percent came true.

It is not just because of me, Donald was saying. You have always been behind me supporting wherever and whenever necessary. If you were not there like that, Donald paused for a moment We never can be in this position in which we are now.

Alright, alright. Margaret intervened. You both are the cause and reason for our development on this day. Need we have a discussion on that?

I must say. Anthony looked at his daughter and said. You are the main reason for our growth on this day. If you don’t agree to marry Donald, he would not have become this much involved in our businesses. As he had become our man he put his heart and mind completely in our businesses and made them grow like this.

Why should not I agree to marry Donald dad? Any girl in my place surely would have agreed to that. Donald is handsome, educated, intelligent....

Enough, enough. We need not compete with each other to praise ourselves. We have come this far, alright, but we must try to keep it. We need to be quite careful from now on. Our growth, our development created lot of enemies also to us. You both also agree with it. Donald said.

You are hundred percent right. I appreciate your foresight. You are always careful in all our affairs. I think you would be so in future also. Anthony said.

Sure I would be, with both of your cooperation. Donald said smiling. I must say our growth and development on this day is not just one man effort. You, your daughter, my daughter, my sons, our faithful employees, sincere workers have their share in our present day success.

That is what I do more like in you Donald. You never try to keep the whole credit for yourself. With admiring eyes Margaret said.

Because that is the truth. We have to appreciate the truth if we want development in our lives.

There was silence briefly while they were sipping their tea and enjoying themselves. It was Margaret who broke it first I don’t want to spoil this happy moment. But I cannot keep this long with me. I must say this.

There was sudden change in the expressions of Anthony and Donald and immediately they both looked into each other’s faces. First tell me what it is? You need never suffer yourself for anything. We both are here to solve whatever problems you may have.

Margaret hissed out heavily. I wish that this problem is such a simple thing or atleast something that either of you can solve without much trouble.

First tell us what it is. Don’t try to kill us with suspense. There was irritation in the voice of Donald.

Sapphire tried to kill me on one night two days back. Margaret said with a small voice.

Anthony and Donald startled as if a bomb was just dropped beside them. What you are talking? Your own daughter tried to kill you? Donald asked with lot of surprise in his voice.

You heard me right. Why you are feeling that much surprise? Don’t you know about our daughter’s eccentric behavior sometimes? knitting her brows together Margaret said.

But that was long time back. Recently she is quite nice with all of us. She is behaving just perfect everywhere.  His voice was with the same surprise and anxiousness.

I agree. But... it started in her again. She tried to kill me on one night two days back. I have to use all my strength to escape from her.

Why did not you tell me about this immediately? Donald almost yelled.

What you can do if I told about this immediately? Margaret said. I don’t want to make you anxious immediately.

So, you have got the perfect moment to divulge that information. With an accusing tone Donald irritatingly said.

I am sorry. It may not be the perfect time for telling about that to you. I don’t like spoiling your mood. But I thought it is better to say about that while my dad is also present.

Margaret is absolutely right. Anthony intervened. You did not spoil our mood. I am sure that Sapphire is not suffering from any serious psychological disorder. It is a very simple one and can be cured very easily.

How you can say about that so dad? Last time she tried to kill you. You have to use all your strength to escape from her then. There was anxiousness in Margaret also.

That happened eight years or so back. She was aged just sixteen years or so then. With vertical frowns Anthony said.

It is not important how much aged she was. It has to be considered why she behaved like that. Why Sapphire tried to kill you on that day in such a way I cannot understand. Now on Margaret. If it is madness, she has to behave differently all the time. But most of the time she is just an ordinary twenty four years aged girl. Why she is behaving sometimes like this? there were deep frowns on the forehead of Donald also.

Just think about her behavior towards Tippu. He is such a loyal servant to us all the time. He is with us for more than forty years. Tippu is feeling fear even to come before her. If he stays before her more than ten minutes, I have no doubt that she kills him Margaret said again. 

Anthony got off from the chair and started pacing on the room. Even he said to his daughter and son in law that it was a very simple psychological order, it was not appearing like that to him. He knew very well how much his daughter and son in law love and like their daughter. Sapphire was a darling to him also. He too could not tolerate if anything happened to Sapphire.

In fact Sapphire also loved and liked her parents that much. She was loving him and respecting him also a lot. But why sometimes she was behaving like that was not understandable at all. Her behavior towards Tippu was angry and hatred almost all the times. Why it was so? What was really causing this type of peculiar behavior in her?

What Tinny is saying about all this? She is such a practicing psychologist and her great friend. Anthony suddenly stopped and asked while looking at his daughter and son in law.

She is just a failure when it comes to Sapphire. She could not have even a simple clue why Sapphire was behaving like that. Margaret said.

Anthony came to his chair again and slumped in it heavily. He breathed deeply and hissed out. How it would be if we take our Sapphire to another psychologist or psychiatrist?

Donald and Margaret looked into each other’s eyes. I cannot recommend it yet. We may better wait some more time. Margaret said.

Why it is so? She is even making murder attempts. What if she succeeds in it next time? Just because she is a beloved one to us, we cannot take the situation less seriously. Anthony was struggling a lot to say that.

Look dad. Margaret started saying. It is happened after eight years or so of interval. She did not make any murder attempts until two days back. It is just like branding her mad if we take her to another psychologist or psychiatrist. We see some more days.........

Dad is right Margaret. Think about her eccentric behavior also. Why she always be angry with Tippu? Before it turns out to be something more dangerous, why should not we take her to a competent psychiatrist? Donald interrupted her.

Don’t forget that she is under the observation of a competent psychologist.

What that competent psychologist could do all these days? You, yourself said that she is a failure. Donald paused for a moment before continuing. For our daughter, a psychologist is not enough. We need a psychiatrist.

We do wait some more days Donald. Anthony said. We observe her carefully. If the situation becomes worse, we shall think about taking her to a psychiatrist.

They discussed in themselves some more time about that.

S apphire is the reason for my marrying Ronald. We both knew each other from our early childhood itself. I am two years senior to her but we studied in the same school and same college. Tinny said.

Tinny and Margaret sat facing each other. What is more in her to any other ordinary girl of her age is her glamour and intelligence.

I know how intimate you both with each other. I know that you are a competent psychologist also. But I cannot understand why you cannot understand your friend.

I am sorry. In all the cases I have dealt with so far, there are only few failures. I am afraid this Sapphire’s also be one of them.

Please don’t say like that. Immediately Margaret took Tinny’s hands into hers. I have pinned all my hopes on you. You must cure her.

She is my close friend. You don’t know how much I love and like her. I am suffering more than you for her situation like this. You need not ask me like this at all. Taking her hands smoothly from her hands, Tinny said.

Margaret remained silent. She knew whatever Tinny said was absolutely true.

Tinny got off from the chair and went to the middle of the room and turned towards Margaret. But Sapphire’s madness is amazing to me. I cannot understand why she is behaving like that. I know all types of madness. But what this is? A murder attempt on her own mother! Why?

My head is breaking thinking about that. Holding her head in both of her hands Margaret said.

I want to ask you some questions ruthlessly and you have to answer them with all frankness. Coming near to the chair she sat and slumped herself in it again, Tinny said.

You have asked those questions quite ruthlessly before and I answered them with all frankness. Margaret said with a weak smile.  

Still it is important............ Tinny tried to say something.

I know what you are going to ask. How I have treated Sapphire in her childhood. She born to me after my first son. I love and like my two sons a lot but I don’t love them as much as I love Sapphire. Sapphire is the world to me and I just cannot say why it is so. I just feel love and affection always on her. It is impossible to me to get angry on her even for a moment. I just forgot about my two sons and put all my concentration on Sapphire. It may not be surprising that a mother loves her child a lot. But my love towards my daughter is more, more and more comparing with any other mother. I never even in my dreams or thoughts or imagination cruel or ill-treat my daughter. I just don’t know how to prove that to you.

She made a murder attempt on her grandfather also. Tinny hissed out heavily and said.

Yes, eight years or so back. Sapphire was just sixteen years or so aged. Sapphire almost succeeded in her attempt. My father luckily escaped.

Tinny did not say anything. In fact she did not know what to say.

Neither I nor my dad nor my husband feeling fear to our lives Tinny. But if she succeeds in killing any of us she would go to jail. None of us want that. Margaret anxiously said.

Tinny involuntarily laughed out. You need not tell me about that particularly. I can understand that.

Your father in law is suggesting to take her to a psychiatrist.

Tinny quickly looked into her eyes. I am also thinking that may be the best suggestion aunt. So far I cannot get any success in this regard.

Please don’t say like that Tinny.. putting her hand on her shoulder Margaret said. It may have a very drastic effect on Sapphire.  We must not make her to feel like a mad girl Tinny.

You are right. I agree. But I don’t ...how it all turns out if neglected like this.

We are not neglecting anything. She is under your close and careful observation.

There was silence once again. Both of them did not know what to talk. I think it was in her third standard or so, Sapphire drew a picture. Tinny said.

Yes, I too remember that. She drew the same picture many a time afterwards also. Sapphire has no talent for drawing pictures.  She drew only that picture like that on many occasions. Margaret remembered that.

A human body with a fox head and frog belly. Tinny said.

Exactly that! Why the bloody hell she drew that picture so that many a time?

I have asked that question many a time to her aunt. But only one answer she gave me all the time. She did not know why she was drawing that picture so. Some subconscious inspiration or temptation, she herself don’t know well, made her drew that picture many a time like that.

Why it happens only to my daughter like this? What sin we have committed? Why god is punishing us like this? Margaret became emotional.

Don’t become emotional like that. Solving the problem becomes even more difficult if we become emotional. Anyhow present situation is not that much worse. Sapphire is sometimes behaving queerly. I observe her carefully and try to find out what is the reason for it. I try to find out what particularly should be done to cure her.

Aunt, please. Don’t say it again like that. It is my responsibility. I owe a lot to her. She made me the wife of a very rich and handsome person. With a smile on her lips Tinny said.

Margaret laughed loud on hearing that. You are really feeling like that! You yourself a daughter of a very rich person. Your family also is a very rich family.

Even too, your family is more rich than ours. Ronald is indeed a very handsome personality. I am really lucky.

Even in this my deepest worry and anxiety also, what you just have said is indeed a very good thing to me to hear.

E ven we both are in the same house, it is becoming difficult to us to spend time together. Looking at Sapphire, Tinny said.

I can understand the reason for it. With a smile Sapphire said. You attached to my brother that much and my brother is not allowing you to come to me.

You naughty Tinny tried to pinch on the shoulder of Sapphire but Sapphire escaped. You are busy in your programs and I am busy in my profession. So it is becoming difficult like this.

I agree some extent with you. Sapphire said. Even we cannot spend time always together, I always feel happy that you became the wife of my brother. I think only for me you married my brother.

It is not so dear. Tinny kissed on the cheek of Sapphire. I must say that there was no love like thing between your brother and me before marriage. There was no one else either in my heart before marrying your brother. When you strongly urged me to marry your brother, I just could not see any reason for denying that. Your brother is educated, intelligent, handsome and moreover I know him from my childhood itself.

So you are completely happy with my brother. I did not do a mistake by making you both one like that. Looking into the eyes of Tinny, Sapphire said

You did a great, great, great thing. Not just I with your brother,  your brother also is so happy with me. Laughing loudly again Tinny said.

Alright then. Tinny nodded her head. There was some silence and Tinny was seriously thinking how to start the topic which she wanted to talk with her.

How your practice is going on as a psychologist? before she say anything, Sapphire asked her.

Nice of course. I cannot say I am getting success in every case I took but I am successful in most of them. Hissing out heavily Tinny said.

You are worrying about something, Tinny. Once again looking into the eyes of Tinny, Sapphire said.

No I am not worrying about anything at all. But Sapphire’s voice was not firm.

I am not a psychologist. But I can say if someone is worrying seriously for something. That too if my close friend Tinny is worrying for anything I can know about that just looking at her.

Tinny frowned. What Sapphire was going to say? Her mind became busy in guessing what Sapphire was going to say to her then.

You are worrying about me. You are worrying about my eccentric behavior sometimes. You are worrying why I have made a murder attempt on my mother just two days or so back, is it is not?

Tinny hurriedly put her hand around Sapphire’s shoulders. You are absolutely right Sappy. I just cannot understand why the bloody hell you behaved like that! I am breaking my head to know about that.

I myself cannot understand why I behaved like that. However great psychologist you may be, however much you may break your head, how can you know about that? Sapphire said while looking straight into the Sapphire’s eyes again.

Tinny nodded her head and removed her hand from Sapphire’s shoulders. But I do have to solve this problem Sappy. I must. She said as if she was mumbling in herself.

I know how much you are struggling yourself to know from what I am suffering and to cure me to perfection. But.... Sapphire tried to say something more.

There are no buts or ifs in this Sappy. Then there was firmness in Tinny’s voice. From now on you are going to be my main concern. Until I get hundred percent success in your matter I do stop my other practice.

No, don’t do it like that. Sapphire said with agitation. You are so far quite helpful to so many patients. If you do stop practicing like this just for me all those would suffer a lot. No I never agree to your decision.

Early in the morning aunty met me. We discussed about you. You don’t know how much anxious and worrying aunt has become because of your behavior. I cannot see her worrying like that for long Sappy. It is not just aunty, uncle but your grandfather also is worrying to the maximum because of your odd behavior. So, I have taken the decision to treat you and make you normal first before involving myself into my other practice.

No, I never do agree to this. Sapphire got off from the chair. If it is the way you are going to treat me I never let you even come near to me.
