    The story briefly;

They all have entered into that palace in that village in the corner of that country along with their family members to stay one week or so and enjoy themselves in the assumption that they have been invited by their friend Nivaas and Nivaas also came to that palace with his son in the assumption that he has been invited by his friend Pallavi. The incidents which took place while all of them were enjoying their stay in the palace until that stranger let them know who he was is the story of the romantic suspense thriller ‘Loud Thunder Nearby.’

    Chapter-1

It was twelve in the morning and all of them were in that palace and Prabuddh along with his wifeMenaka and son Anand was the recent addition just ten minutes before to the group of the people who were already in it for more than one hour.

I really like Nivaas making us all grouping here in this way after such a long time but I don’t like his not coming here at the appointed time. He supposed to be here before all of us. Nandini said. It is more than one hour that we are all assembled in this place but he did not come here yet.

You are right. I am well aware of his nature and he is a sort of hoodwinking type. I don’t feel surprise even he does not come here at all after making us assembled here in this way. It was Pallaviwith a sort of anger in her voice and with similar facial expression.

Oh, don’t jump to conclusions like that. Just one hour or so has passed after the appointed time and he may be here at any moment. After making us to come and making arrangements also for all of us in this way, why will not he come? Just wait some more time and he certainly will come. Vistaar said.

I really doubt that. He certainly likes fooling the people around. Pallavi still was angry and her husband Maanav looked at her with irritation. From the moment she received a letter like that from Nivaas inviting her to come to that palace, she was on seventh heaven. She was very much thrilled and enthusiastic to meet that Nivaas and Maanav knew the reason why it was so.

What is the problem, you tell me? Sanjanawho was also one of theminterfered. All arrangements have been made for our comfortable stay here and we can enjoy ourselves a lot. Even he does not come at all, there is no problem to us.

I tried to be here at the appointed time but my train has become late. Prabuddh said. But what a wonderful thing it is! We all close friends can meet here like this after such a long time. We all must be quite thankful to Nivaas for this and I am also thinking that any moment he will be here.

For that Pallavi was going to say something but then a sixty years or so aged old lady entered into that palace along with an eighteen years or so young girl and a dog-puppy. As soon as the people have seen them both there, there was cacophony with merriment among them all.

So Nivaas did not forget to invite you also here! Sanjana exclaimed, went near to the old woman and said putting her both hands around her.

How he would forget, Sumalatha madam is a favourite teacher to him also just like to all of us. Nandini said.

Yes, he did not forget to invite me also here. With a smile on her lips Sumalatha said trying to control the dog-puppy with the leash in her hand which was hovering around her feverishly. As I have become old like this, I need to take my granddaughter Sameera along with me. Then she looked at the young girl who came along with her.

She is your granddaughter! looking with surprise at Sameera there, Nandini said. She is indeed very much beautiful. That means your son Anirudhgot married and his wife also is very much beautiful.

You are right. My son got married, she is his daughter and this naughty girl resembles her mother Susmithain beauty in all respects. With a smile on her lips Sumalatha said and by that time the dog-puppy in her hands came to a standstill at her legs and it was looking at the people there with surprise. But from the beginning as both her parents were busy doctors, they left their daughter at me and she accustomed more to stay with me rather than with her parents.

Indeed a very nice thing! Sanjanarelieved her hold around that old woman, came littler far and said with a smile. You need support of someone at your age now and your granddaughter is giving that to you.

But how long this mischievous girl gives me support? What after she has been picked up by a guy and go along with him to live her life? with the same smile on her lips Sumalatha said still looking into the face of Sameera.

Oh, grandma! Don’t talk like that. I never go away leaving you so. Sameera said looking with mocked anger into the face of her grandmother.

What does that mean? You don’t marry at all and even you marry you do stay along with your husband at your grandma? Beautiful girls like you would not be allowed long to remain unmarried. Madhurima said

On hearing comment like that Sameera’s cheeks were blushed deep.

Anyhow where is that Nivaas? I very much want to see and talk with him. He has got such a good idea to make us all meet here in this way. Sumalatha said.

That is what quite ironic! He asked us all to be here at eleven but he is not here till now. Why he has become late like this I cannot understand! Vistaar said. But I am sure he comes sooner or later.

I also think like that. May be some problem we cannot understand. Sumalatha nodded her head. Anyhow what about our meals and other necessities here?

All arrangements have been made for our comfortable stay here. You need not worry about it at all. Sanjana said with a smile.

Two people, a man and woman, who were already in that palace by the time of Sanjana and the rest entered into that palace said to them that all arrangements have been made for their comfortable stay there. They said lunch will be provided to them by one o’ clock itself.

But one thing I don’t like much now. This rain and thunders around. Climate is gloomy and my Dopy also doesn’t like much this type of environment. Looking out at the environment Sumalatha said.

But grandma, climate does not remain in the same way to our liking all the time. Rain and thunders are quite common feature of the nature, are not they? Sameera who settled in a chair nearby there by then said.

On hearing that everyone there around laughed and Sumalatha’s face filled with a little angry expression.

Moreover I do like this type of environment also. It is just a sort of thrilling to me to stay in a big palace like this in this type of climate. Sameera said.

In fact including Sameera everyone there were feeling a sort of uneasiness once they entered into the palace, the reason they did not know and even there were all arrangements for their comfortable stay in that place, the hugeness of it was creating an odd feeling in them.

You silly girl. I know your idiosyncrasies. Sumalatha said looking angrily into the face of her granddaughter. Anyhow I am happy that you do like this.

Teacher..... Nandini said. ..........in fact we all also like our staying here a lot. You also do like it. Of course the environment now is little disturbing."

Then there was a sudden loud thunder nearbydeafening their ears preceded by a blinding lightening. All their hearts missed a beat making the uneasiness in them even more but none of them have shown their expressions in their faces.

Okay then. Once the climate became little bit usual, Sumalatha slumped herself in a chair in that hall taking that dog-puppy into her lap and looked at the people there. I very much want to know about all you people. I am seeing you all after such a long time and there has come lot of changes in all of you. Tell me one by one all about yourselves before that Nivaas comes here and tells us why he has become late like that.

I start with myself then. Pallavi came forward. You have inculcated all good values in us while we were studying in the high school and I just followed those values all the time. After graduation with M.A., I wanted to do a job as a teacher like you by undergoing teacher training but my parents asked me to marry and settle in life and I always followed elders’ words. This was the guy Maanav, a successful business man.......... she looked at her husband Maanav and said. ...........they selected for me and I just obeyed them.

For few seconds there were different sort of expressions in Sumalatha and her classmates there as they knew what happened in her life before her marriage with that man. They did not know whether that man knew about it or not and when they looked into his face it appeared that he was trying to suppress an expression.

So he became your husband! Sumalatha laughed. Quite a lucky guy to get a beautiful woman like you as his wife. I am sure you both would have been blessed with a beautiful son or daughter or both. With a meaningful expression that she should tell about her children details also, Sumalatha said.

A daughter teacher, Niharika. She has written her engineering final year examinations. Pallavi said. She is with the other youth in the upstairs rooms.

That means you all have come here with your children also.

Of course, yes. Nandini laughed. We have come here with our husbands also. Nivaas particularly said that we can come here along with our relatives and friends also.

You are right and that’s indeed nice! Sumalatha nodded her head. Now you tell me about your details.Sumalatha looked into the face of Nandini.

This Sambaan is my husband teacher. Dragging a guy near to her, Nandini said. Ours is an arranged marriage and our daughter Vasanthi and son Rohanare also enjoying their time in the upstairs. It is two years that Vasanthi has completed her engineering and Rohan has written his final year engineering examinations.

Really nice, what about you dear boy Vistaar? Sumalatha said and looked into the face of a person there.

My marriage also is an arranged marriage and my wife is this Mayuri. Dragging a woman opposite to Sumalatha, Vistaar said And my daughter Thanuja also is in the upstairs with the rest of the youth. She studied M.B.A. after B.Com degree.

Beautiful, beautiful indeed your wife is! with an appreciative expression in her face Sumalatha exclaimed. If your daughter resembles your wife, I have no doubt that she also is very much beautiful.

But teacher she is a blend of us both. Vistaar laughed and said. May I call her down? You can have an assessment of her also.

Let her enjoy her time there. I see her later no problem. Sumalatha said and then she looked at Prabudh. I know you well but I forgot your name. You can understand old age problems. Let me know about you.

Prabuddh came back to Sumalatha put his right hand around her shoulders and kissed on her head. Then you certainly have forgotten that I was your favourite pet in those days. You always used to say that I was intelligent and can become great in my life. I cannot say it is very much great thing but presently I am working as a regional manager to a nationalised bank.

Sumalatha got off from the chair she sat, keeping his hold like that around her, put her both hands around him and kissed on his right cheek. I did not forget about that and doing a job like that is indeed a great thing. I just forgot your name. And then she looked at the woman and boy beside him and said Now you have to introduce them to me.

She is Menaka a psychologist, and our son Anand. He completed his graduation in medicine and intend to do post- graduation in it with surgery. Prabuddh said while looking at both his wife and son, during then Menaka smiled and bowed her head and Anand smiled.

How nice it is! Your son is a doctor! she relived her hold around Prabuddh relieved herself from his hold, went near to Anand, put her right hand around him and said while looking into his face. Then not only you but your son also isremarkable!

On her saying that there was laughter with merriment around and after its subsiding Sumalatha said again. In my entire teaching career, I do remember some of my students always. Two of them are; Prabuddh and Nivaas. Nivaas also was intelligent like Prabudh, I used to have hopes in him also but what I remember in him most is; his mischievous and naughty nature. I don’t know how he is now and how much he made my assumption true but I dare say to most of the girls he is a favourite in those his high-school days itself.

Yes, teacher. You are right. That is because he is not only intelligent but handsome........ Pallavi started saying but suddenly something stuck her and when she looked at her side into the face of her husband Maanav,it was with an angry expression .......some girls used to be after him. She hastily completed.

Oh, you Madhurima. Sumalatha said suddenly looking into the face of a woman there. I hope that you also came here with your husband and children. She left her hold around Anand and came near to Madhurama.

My husband could not come with me teacher. Madhurima smiled and said. But I came here with my two sons, Vijay and Prathap. Both of them just have completed their post- graduation engineering and at present in the upstairs rooms.

Indeed very nice. But........ Sumalatha knitted her brows together. .........how it has become possible to both of them to complete their post-graduation engineering at one time?

It is just because teacher......... Madhurima laughed and said ..........they both are twins.

What a wonderful news it is! What a wonderful news! Sumalatha put her both hands around Madhurima’s neck and kissed on her right cheek. But a disappointment! I have expected a beautiful girl through you just like you.

But teacher everyone says that they both are handsome just like their father. If you see them both, you do also say the same thing.

There was some silence and during that time Dopy got off from the lap of Sumalatha, came near to Sameera and Sameera took her into her lap.

Don’t you want to know about me teacher? Sanjana came in front of Sumalatha and said. I was not intelligent and clever but you used to have special affection on me.

That was just because you always used to be so obedient and good to me. Sumalatha got off from the chair she sat, put her both hands around Sanjanabefore kissing on her forehead. I did not forget about you and I remember your name also. Sanjana, tell me about you. Did you also come here with your husband and children?

I have come here with my daughter Ragini, a science post-graduate now, and just like all the other young guys she went into the upstairs rooms. Sighing heavily Sanjana said.

What about your husband dear? What he is doing and where he is now? Sumalatha knitted her brows together still looking into the face of Sanjana.

He is late teacher. He died in an accident when my daughter Ragini was just three years old.

How terribly sad! Sumalatha said and looked into the faces of all the people there. There were sad expressions in the faces of the other people also there but they did not feel surprise. Sanjana already shared about her life with the other people there. I am sorry! I am very much sorry. She hugged Sanjana and said.

But my life is alright teacher. My husband is the only son to his rich parents so I did not face any problem till date in my life. As my husband died at my young age itself my parents and parents in law pressed me a lot to marry again but I could not do so. But I did not let my daughter feel the deficiency of her dad. She could complete her post-graduation in science with best grade.

Very nice to hear dear! Sumalatha said and relieved her but suddenly attention came into her face when she did not find her dog-puppy at her feet. Where is my Dopy? Where it is? I just cannot find her anywhere here. She started looking around her with an anxious expression in her face.

Oh, grandma! It must be somewhere here. You don’t become like that. Sameera came near to her and said. It was in my lap till now and I just don’t know when it got off and went away.

In fact at that moment Sameera was looking at Anand who was almost with six feet height and an exercised body. She has experience with one or two boys before but none of them were handsome and with an exercised body like this. Involuntarily she was imagining herself in his tight hug and movement of his thing in her’ and while her whole body was with a sort of pleasure and thrill but her grandmother’s hysterical bouts like that took her into this world and she could not find Dopy in her lap.

You don’t stand here like a pillar and say useless things to me. Just go and find out where it is. Sumalatha yelled loudly. You very well know how I do become without my Dopy.

Alright grandma! Sameera nodded her head and moved away from that place.

Where is my Dopy? It never has gone anywhere leaving me like this. Sumalatha also started wandering in the place yelling hysterically in the same way.

Everyone there became shocked at her sudden behaviour like that. They did not understandhow a matured woman like her would become hysterical just for the few seconds absence of her pet. All those people also started searching for that dog-puppy amidst the hysterical bouts of Sumalatha.

Just a moment. Vistaar came near to them and said. Your Dopy is lurking under that table there. I have tried to take that out from there but it did not come out.

My Dopy is lurking under a table while I am here? It is quite unusual of her. Moving away from that place towards the direction Vistaar has shown Sumalatha said.

They all reached that table. Dopy was really crouched in a corner under it and Sumalatha indeed has to put an effort to take that into her hands again.

My Dopy is feeling fear for something here. Hugging that dog to her heart, Sumalatha said. It is not feeling comfortable.

Sometimes animals feel fear and uncomfortable at new places and there is no surprise. Menaka said. It shall accustom to this place soon.

I hope like that. Sumalatha said still with an uneasy expression in her face. But it is very first time that my Dopy behaving like this.

To that Menaka was about to say something but then a woman came there. Lunch is ready. If you people come into the dining room, it will be served to you there.

We are waiting for the arrival of a man. If he also comes, we all do come along with him and take our lunch there. Madhurima said. Just wait another half an hour.

After hearing that, that woman nodded her head and went away from that place.

I don’t know when that Nivaas comes. Nandini said. I am really feeling hungry and want to take my lunch now itself.

Just wait another half an hour. Pallavi has forgotten about her husband and said. "After all it is he who made all these arrangements and it will be proper that we all take our lunch together. Anyhow after half an
