Chapter one

M other.... mother!

Aisha shouted while rushing downstairs holding a newspaper in excitement.

Aisha Peterson, is a 21 years old beautiful young lady, whose dream is to become a doctor since childhood. She passed her high school with good grades, 4 years back. The only thing holding her back from achieving her dream was lack of income. Will her dream ever come true one day?

...mother, why aren't you replying to me when I'm calling you?"

I'm sorry dear, I didn't hear you call out for me Her mother replied with a low tone.

Argh! you have started again to overthink. That's why you couldn't hear me call out for you. She scolded her mom a lot until she realised that the situation was a serious one. her mom was definitely worried about something.

...mother, what's eating you inside? you know you can tell me anything."

Aisha, you know I am worried about your future she said as she glanced at her and averted. As a mother, it is my duty to make sure that my child is well taken care of and that she has a bright future full of happiness ahead of her. She added.

Wait a second mom.... don't tell me that you want me to get married to that lousy and annoying guy, August.

He's a nice guy for you my dear. Her mom said as she looked at her trying to make her understand. ...look, you might not love August now but he is definitely going to give you the life you have been dreaming of having. you'll live like a princess my dear"

No! I don't want to get married mom and please don't force me to, either. Marriage is the last thing in my mind and right now, I want to fulfil my dream of becoming a doctor. She paused a little as she gasped for some air before adding look mom, just read here and see this great opportunity for me.

Aisha showed her mom the newspaper she was holding but her mom was determined to stay stubborn and listen to nothing that comes from Aisha's mouth.

Aisha listen to me, I am your mother and I will never watch you go astray. Marrying August is going to be one of the best things to do, rather than going to England to fulfil your dream of becoming a doctor while aware of how slow and dumb you are. I won't let you humiliate me.

Did you just say I am slow and dumb mom? Aisha asked in disbelief tearful.

You heard me correctly. so, listen here, go up there and wear something nice. August and his family members will be coming here for Lunch. So, this is a great opportunity for you to fix things with him. Make sure not to upset him, okay? She said as she walked away.

Aisha was still in disbelief as she couldn't move a bit.

Once upon a time, a king was walking down the island, searching for his queen. Then one day, he found her waiting for him at the beach. he couldn't believe his eyes when he saw her. But what could he have done in that situation? he had no choice but to go to that beautiful queen of his and express his gratitude for the kindness she had to wait for him even after he let her wait that long Tony said followed by both his and Sarah's giggle.

You are crazy Mr Patel.

Just as crazy as I am for you. I love you my queen he said as he grabbed her by her waist and kissed her on the forehead.

Oh! wow wow wow, why on the forehead instead of the lips? She uttered looking into his eyes while placing her hands on his shoulders.

Mrs Patel to be, you have started being naughty. You know that a bunch of people are looking at us right now and what's worse, it's our family elders

Lol! You want to go to a secret place perhaps? She whispered in his left ear followed by a smirk.

Tony stared at her and as one of his weaknesses he couldn't refuse her.

Tony Patel, a 25 years old handsome and tall young man who listens to his parents, but more specifically, his father. He is a successful young business man running some of his father's 2 companies as well as 3 properties at the same time. However, he's heart belongs to only one woman, Sarah. Sarah Johnson, a 24 years old  young pretty woman who has too many secrets hidden from her loved ones. Although, she claims to be a saint in front of them, she’s ready to fight anyone who stands on her way. Besides all that, she's from a wealthy family and she can afford any life style she wishes for with her parent's money.

You got me this time around he said, then they both laughed as they walked away.

Their family members watched them leave and did not want to disturb them. They were so happy to see the bond Tony and Sarah shared.

Aisha sat on the couch still in disbelief. She took a glance on the newspaper tearful and confusingly.  She could not understand why her mom had to turn her down like that.

This is such a big opportunity for me to become something I want. This school doesn't require much of information and what's good, it provides me a scholarship to study till I'm done. Why is mom not seeing this opportunity as something great that can ever happen to me, not that August guy and marriage She thought out loud sobbing.

My princess, you are being stubborn right now.

A male voice said on the background and it got Aisha shivering. She quickly got up and wiped her tears. Then when she was about to look where the voice was coming from, she felt someone grabbing her close to his chest, this made her become more nervous and closed her eyes. A chuckle came out a few seconds later. Aisha opened her eyes to her surprise.

Tony...you! She said as she hugged him tightly and began sobbing.

Hey... what's the matter now? He asked confused.

Aisha kept on sobbing and did not utter a word to Tony. As confused as Tony was, he decided to take her to a coffee shop nearby so she can feel better and tell him what the problem was.

How do you feel now? He asked

Aisha looked at him and shook her head off.

Come on Aisha, you know that you can tell me what's bothering you. I'm your best friend after all and best friend should be there for each other. did you forget that code?

Let's go somewhere far from here and I will tell you everything She said so lowly This sounds serious. let's go then he said.

They both left the coffee shop and went somewhere far from town. After sometime, They found themselves at an abandoned house near the woods and they went inside. It did not provide any danger to them, so they found it comfortable to chill at and have some conversation.

Now, I'm ready to listen to everything bothering my best friend Tony said.

Tony...you won't believe that my own mom wants me to get married.

What? he blurted in shock

.... why would your mom suggest something like that?" He continued questioning her

She's under the impression that getting married will give me the life I've been dreaming of having, ever since I was a child. You know I tried to convince her that marriage is not something that I want. I don't want to get married yet and besides,  I want to go to England to persuade my dream of becoming a doctor.

England? but.... England is far away Aisha. I don't think it's a good idea going there. I suggest you study here and I'll help you in enrolling to a good school.

You don't understand Tony. Studying here is not a problem for me, but you know that I can't afford the education here. Unlike England, they will offer me a scholarship and everything will be sorted there.

So, your worry is not being able to afford the school fees and your needs as well, here, right? He uttered

Don't worry about that. As your best friend I will cover every need of yours. you just have to promise me one thing though

What...?Aisha asked.

Pass all your semesters with flying colours he said and smile looking at Aisha. Thank you Thank you Aisha uttered joyful as she hugged Tony.

The preparations for Tony and Sarah's wedding were undergoing. It seemed like there will be a big white wedding, looking at the decorations and guests list. Their family members wanted everything to be as perfect for them as possible as it could.

Mrs Patel, what do you think about the colour of the flowers? Asked Miss Elizabeth, one of The Patel mansion workers.

Uhm...the colour is fine, but I want you to go and enquire from Mrs Johnson in the guest room about the kind of flowers and colours Sarah loves. She replied.

Mrs Patel is a mother of three, 2 sons and 1 daughter. Her first-born name is Samuel (30), while the second born is Debra (27) then the last born is Tony (25). She's one of the kindest people on earth and believes in justice upon the victims. She's a retired doctor who still earns pension funds every month.

Elizabeth said and walked away. few seconds later, Sarah entered and found Mrs Patel moving around the living room checking if whether every was under control. Mother! She uttered staring at her.

Sarah you, I thought you were still with Tony out there. By the way, don't mind me asking. Where is he?

He is not back yet? I thought he was here She uttered surprised

What are you saying? you left with him this morning and since then, he has not been back yet

Now I am certain that you feel better, shall we go home? Tony suggested

Definitely. I see the groom to be is running out of patient. you can't wait any longer to get married right?

Lol definitely I can't wait. I am even nervous. Wait...tell me something, did I do wrong lying to my wife to be about my whereabouts? What do you mean exactly?

Aisha, I lied to Sarah before coming to you. I told her that I am going home instead of upsetting her and telling her that I am coming to you directly

I see. after all, I am a woman and I understand. She probably doesn't want her man to be around other women especially when those women aren’t her She said then she chuckled

Woman are such weirdos

bruh! it's not a sin to be jealous especially when your partner has female or male friends She said before adding You will understand when Sarah befriends men then you'll experience everything she's experiencing right now

Nah...I as a man I'm total different. I don't mind when my partner befriends men because I trust her wholeheartedly. unless, if she's up to no good obvious.

You know you are just blubbering. wait till it's your turn She said as she got up giggling.

Tony just glanced at her and did not utter a word.

Sarah was still angry when she suddenly swivelled round when she heard Tony's voice. She quickly swirled to him shouting

Where are you coming from Tony, where?

Tony? I'm Tony now? He asked staring at her Isn't that your name? huh! Sarah was furious with him.

Babe, calm down. I know you must be furious with me right now because of what happened earlier He said as he pulled her towards himself as he wanted to hug her. However, Sarah's furiousity made her pushed him away.

Don't even dare try to sweet talk me. Answer the damn question! she yelled at him

Tony's parents and Sarah's mother heard their quarrels in different rooms and swiftly rushed to them so they can understand what was happening.

Sarah you're too loud. what will you say to our parents if they come to know about this useless quarrel? He whispered to her.

I don't care! Tell me where you are coming from right now? Sarah continued shouting at Tony like a small child.

Sarah, what's going on here? Sarah's mom asked as she and Tony's parents entered in the living room. Tony and Sarah glanced at them at the same time then they glared at each other and they did not say a word.

Aisha opened the door and entered in the house only to find August waiting for her at the door. August Smith was a 28-years old guy who was obsessed with Aisha and wanted to make her his. Besides his obsession with Aisha, he was a police officer who was so corrupt in the department of police and also powerful. Whatever he wishes for, he'd get it without a struggle. now the question was, will he get Aisha as his desire?

Aisha looked around in the house and the house seemed quiet with no sign that there were people inside besides August.

My darling, what are you looking for? I, your husband to be I'm already here waiting for you. He said with a smirk.

Aisha just glared at him and passed him at the door as she went to her mom's room to look for her. To her surprise, no one was even there.

What's going on here? Aisha murmured to herself. Before, she could move to another room, August had already blocked her way.

Why are you running away from me sweetheart? He asked as he held her hand

.... I'm your husband to be and you could at least welcome me with good arms" He added

let go of my hand. I told you before and I am telling you again that I will not marry you

Ah! Aisha, why are you being stubborn? He asked

Aisha glowered at him for few seconds then she looked away in disgust.

Listen darling, as our parents are out right now. this is a good opportunity for us to make up and get a little closer, you know what I mean He smiled

Disgusting! you clearly don't have shame. but let me make one thing clearly, even in your wildest dreams will I ever accept your proposal. I'd rather marry a mad man than marry you

Ouch! your words really hurt me darling. I see you have proven to be stubborn but we shall see. For as long as I have your mom's support in this ordeal. You will become mine Aisha. it's just a matter of time Aisha glared at him and did not say a word.

Tony, what is happening here son? Tony's father asked.

Mr Patel was one of the heartless being alive. He believes in status for people to marry. As one of the billionaires he wants his son to marry a wealthy woman or else he'll be disowned if he marries a woman without status just as he disowned his first son who went against his decisions and choices.

Dad, I ...I .... Tony stammered

Father in law, your son here doesn't want to take me out for dinner. That's why we've been quarrelling

Sarah said

Tony stared at her in shock. Sarah practically lied to his father.

C'mon son, you know that a woman's needs should be your first priority He said as he shook his head off in relief

Mrs Patel and Mrs Johnson looked at each other and smiled in relief too "Yes dad but....

Before Tony could speak further, his father cuts him short.

There's no buts. Take her out for dinner

Tony just shook his head in agreement and did not utter a word.

A day later....

Aisha still can't believe that her mom had set her up with August yesterday. She just sat on the couch and wondered what her other intentions are.

Her mom walked up to her and just stared at her without saying a word for few seconds. You are so determined to disappoint me, right? She uttered Aisha glanced at her and did not say a word.

I am talking to you child, so answer my question! she blustered

Do your worst mother. I no longer care about what you say. I still stand on my grounds and again I will not do what you want me to do. period! She said staring at her.

"I see! for as long as I am alive, you will marry August whether you like it or not. I tried reasoning with you but it's pointless right now. Now I am going to use other alternatives to make sure that you and

August gets married before this week ends What?" Aisha said in shock

..... Mother, how could you do this to me? why are you forcing me to marry a man I don't love? She asked What do you know about love Aisha? you are just a child and you'll never understand anything about love"

Then make me understand instead of forcing things upon me

Once a fool is always a fool. It's pointless talking to you and wasting my energy She said as she began walking away from her.

Mother....Mother! She called out for her but her mom did not turn back. Then, she followed her.

Sarah dialled Tony's phone number and called him as she hasn't heard from him since their last quarrel.

His phone rang and rang but no one picked up.

Tony pick up my calls please She said to herself as she dropped the call and called again. Still, no one answered.

Thereafter, she just sat on the couch worried as she laid her phone on the table. After some few minutes, she received a phone call from an unknown number. She firstly wondered if she should answer it or leave it. Then after some thinking she answered the phone.

Hello!

{Hello Sarah}

Immediately after answering the call, Sarah recognised the caller's voice which frightened her.

Who could that person be? and what does the person want from Sarah?

Mrs Patel entered in Tony's room and found him busy with his computer.

Son, can you spare some minutes and talk with your mother She said standing next to him.
