When Rose and her family came into that locality, they really felt embarrassed seeing the surroundings there. It was such a locality only very rich people were living in big palace like houses and comparing with them Rose' family was quite poor indeed. Because of her father's employment in one of the company's there, Rose family had to move to that place.

Then Rose had to go to the palace of Margaret who was one of the very rich ladies in that locality and a managing director of two thousand crore company when her brother Ginaldy went into their house to play with Margaret's son Stuart. There first she met with Margaret whom appeared to her quite kind, considerate and welcoming. Rose instantly started liking Margaret. Then she met Stuart inside that palace and his handsome physique and active eyes immediately attracted Rose. Then many a time Ginaldy went into the house of Margaret, many a time Rose went there to fetch him back and in that process many a time she met with Stuart also. Slowly a love like thing started in between them both and in due course of time they recognized it as love.

But Margaret who was the richest lady put a condition to agree for Stuart marriage to be performed with Rose. She did not say what that condition was in before saying that she would say about it only after marriage. But after marriage when Rose came to know about that condition she became aghast and terrified. It was such a condition that sure would create disputes and differences between Stuart and her. But Rose had to agree to that as she promised before marriage itself to do whatever Margaret would ask. When Rose became managing director of the two thousand crore company in the place of Margaret as a part of fulfilling her promise to her mother in law, her worst fear came true. Stuart really misunderstood her, quarreled with her and left the house.

The rest of the story proves Rose' courage, intelligence and tenacity. While trying to take the company onto profit tracks at all her best, Rose relentlessly made attempts to reconcile with Stuart. She got success not just in taking the company onto the profit tracks again, but also could make Stuart understand her love and live along with her. Then Stuart and Rose once again were the happiest couple.

Chapter-1

She was so absent minded , involved completely in her own thinking and it had taken nearly half a minute to the constantly ringing cell phone to get her attention. The unknown number on the miniature screen irritated her even more when she took it into her hand from the table before her and looked at it. She was not attending unknown numbers recently but unintentionally pressed the green button and put it at her left ear.

Hello. Her despair, irritation and sorrow completely expressed in her voice.

Its me, Rose.

The very voice created a tempest in her heart and she at once stood up from the chair involuntarily. There was a sudden shocking expression on her face.

Stuart where you are? suddenly the shocking expression in Rose’s face turned into anger. Her left hand turned tightly around the cell phone while the other hand turned into a fist like a rock. Her protruding belly with the advanced pregnancy was touching the table before her. Who gave this man the authority to make her suffer like this?

Should you know about that? there was derisive laughter from the other end. Rose was already accustomed to his recent sadistic nature. Tears welled up in the corners of her eyes and ready to flow down.

Stuart please... she did not know she was screaming. She had forgotten all about the surroundings. Please come here. You don’t know how much I need you. You don’t know how much I am suffering.

Sure I do come. There was a teasing pause on the other side while she was so intently listening. Then would you transfer your shareholding into the company into my name? Would you allow me to become the managing director of it?

She knew that was what he was going to ask. But he did not know how much she wished to do that. How much she was wishing to get rid of this burden he never could understand.

I gave the word to your mother Stuart. She did not know how many times she tried to make him understand this point. He was just stubborn. I cannot do that until I take the company into profits again.

I too can do that. he tauntingly said. You are not the only clever person to do it.

I surely agree. She slumped into the chair again. Her pregnancy making it difficult to her to get up and sit down. But your mother took the word from me that I would not transfer the authority until I take the company into profits.

My mother never believed me Rose. There was distress in his voice then and she felt pity. She never gave me a chance to prove myself. You are also doing the same to me.

She did not know what to say as she as well could see some reasoning in his saying so. She suddenly felt lot of anger on her mother in law who made her promised to her so. If her mother in law was alive on this day she would have explained to her the difficulty in it and take back her promise. But unfortunately she died making the situation a lot more difficult to Rose.

Why you are not talking anything Rose? Would you do in the way I have asked you? there was pleading in his voice which cringed her heart.

First come here Stuart. Then we do talk everything in detail.

No. Until you promise me to transfer your eighty percent shareholding in the company to me I would not come to you at all. He was adamant like a child. Her mother-in-law was correct.

I am already suffering by making a promise. I am not going to make another one.

Then you never can see me again.  The voice was cut off and she instantly put the cell phone before her eyes. She had seen the message ‘call ended’ mocking her on the miniature screen.  She immediately went into the received calls and observed the number. It was made from a public telephone booth. She immediately called to that number and someone attended to it.

Just now some person called through this number. Is he is around? the tension in her was reflecting full in her voice.

Wait a moment.... It seemed that person was surveying the area. After twenty seconds or so he came into the line again. No madam. It seems he went away fast.

May I know which area that is?

She listened carefully while the other person saying the details of the area and after he finished she cut off the phone. He went quite far away, her depression had become even more. She leaned back in the chair and closed her eyes shut.

The responsibility she had got on her hands making her felt fear. The company ‘Lallora Enterprises’ was accumulating losses year by year for the last ten years. Even the business ‘Lallora Enterprises’ was doing not facing much competition, considering the present situation of the company it was almost impossible to take it on to the profit track.

I am a woman relating to the old generation Rose. I cannot digest these new technologies and new needs fast. What all our company presently needs are those new technologies and new methods. As a quite intelligent and educated woman you can perfectly understand those things. I believe that you sure can take this company into profits again. She still could remember the conversation took place between her and her mother in law Margaret Winter months back after her marriage performed with Stuart.

No. she protested instantly. I am as much ignorant as you are about these technologies and methods. At the same time I don’t know anything about business either. I am a literature student. How can I understand any of these? All these are completely out of my purview. She worriedly tried to make her mother in law understand.

But Margaret was as much adamant as Stuart. You gave me the word my child, before your marriage with my son. You have promised to me that you fulfill my only desire after your marriage with my son.

I did not at all think it would be this. there was emotional strain in Rose. She really did not know anything about business and it was very difficult to her to understand the business ‘Lallora Enterprises’ was doing.  

I am as much ignorant as you are when my father in law put the reins of this company into my hands Rose. The confidence in Margaret’s face surprised Rose. How she got that much of confidence on me? Rose wondered. I was not educated as much as you are either. But I have accepted the responsibility and put it into profits then.

Then you can do this again. Rose hastily said. What is the necessity to transfer the shares into my name? What is the necessity that I should step into this now?

There are two main reason for this dear. Margaret with her usual accent said. First as I just have said I cannot understand and digest these modern technologies, modern tendencies and apply them to the business. The second and most important.... She gave a pause as if to give some stress to what she was going to say. I am feeling strongly that my days are just numbered. I want to put this company into a strong and able hand before I pass away.

There was no way to escape. It was just like a thorn tiara put on her head. She knew very well that Stuart’s feelings sure would be hurt by this and she could not think of how he would behave.

Stuart is just like a child despite his twenty eight years age. He has got all the enthusiasm but does not have the matured thinking you are having. Sure he gets hurt but there is no way avoiding it. As lover of him you may be known about him than me too. Just treat him like your first child. Don’t give up yourself whatever he may resort himself to pleadings, blackmail, clamor or threats.  You have no choice until you take this company into profits. Afterwards it is your wish and desire.

It had started like that and there was no way to her to escape from that. But she did not expect this type of reaction from Stuart. She thought that he would get angry and stop talking with her for some days but not at all expected that he would leave the house and go away. She was feeling quite lonely even her own brother Ginaldi and friend Liza with her. It was too much on her to bear after the loss of her father first in the accident and within three months her mother next with cancer. Why fate decided to play such cruelest jokes on her?

M om, it appears like a very posh locality. I am not thinking that we can manage here comfortably. After they shifted into the small house there when her father got a job in a company there observing the surroundings standing in the threshold of their tiny house Rose Peacock said.

I am also having such a feeling, darling. In a way we cannot that much afford the rent of this house either. But it is convenient to your father to go to the office and come back if we stay here. There was the same uncomfortable look on the face of her mother Mary Peacock as well. But it was not just because of the high class neighborhood beside but the extravaganza their living there would cause to them.

Alright dear. Don’t worry too much. You know very well what your father wants most. You must be well educated, do a good job and settle happily in your live. It is not beyond your knowledge how hard he is working to get it done. Only to make you and your brother more the best citizens he resigned to his old job and joined here. Keeping a hand on the shoulder of Rose and squeezing it Mary said.

I never forget that Mom. As soon as I complete my graduation I do join in a job and be helpful to my father. Trying to understand the expression in her mother’s face Rose said.

Mary burst into laughter and hugged her daughter. That takes a long time dear. You are studying only seventh standard now. It takes a lot of time to you to complete your education.

Mommy, you are discouraging me. Relieving herself from her mother’s hug Rose said looking complainingly into her mother’s eyes.

Mary breathed deep and hissed out heavily. No, Rose. It is never your father’s desire to make you do some job and we depend on you. What all he wants is you should become highly literate and live happily.

But mom... Rose tried to say something but Ginaldi Peacock came there running. It seemed to that mother and daughter that the boy was not suffering from any uncomfortability as they both were doing. His face was beaming like that as if he had spent good time until that moment.

Where you were all this time my little bro. take his left ear into her hand Rose asked him. She was about to pinch it but he maneuvered to slid away from her.

I did just go into that big house. The boy in that house asked me to come. Showing the very big house yonder with his index finger Ginaldi said.

Rose and Mary looked into each other’s faces. Rose was the disciplinarian concerning the boy than his mother. She made her face angrier and about to say something then Ginaldi said again.

He said his name is Stuart. He is very good. He took me into his house and we played a lot of time there.  They have got a computer as well in their home. Ginaldi was too enthusiastic and happy to notice the angry expression in his sister’s face.

We are quite new here and those people are appearing as very rich. It is not nice that you did go into their home just because a boy in it called you. Rose had to shout to get the attention of Ginaldi.

But I did no wrong there. Ginaldi defensively said. He too became angry. Quite often he did not like his sister’s disciplinary way towards him.

She was about to say something then Mary intervened. Ginaldi did not go there unbidden. And I know very well that he never transgresses his manners.

But I don’t like you go into their house again even you are invited. Keeping the anger in her expression and voice in the same measure Rose said.

I sure do go into that house again and again and again. Running into the house Ginaldi said.

Mom, see what he is saying? He must be punished. Saying so Rose tried to rush after him.

It is all right. Leave his matter to me. Just consider about yourself and your studies. Stopping her daughter from moving anymore further Mary said.

There were instances in which Rose could not go against her mother’s words and it was one of them.
