Author

Ian Kidd

I grew up in South Yorkshire, England, before emigrating to South Australia at the age of sixteen. My writing ambitions began as a child, when I became notorious in my class for writing short horror stories that would probably have them calling in the child psychologists nowadays! I have written everything from non-fiction ebooks to published short fiction, and served as script editor on two proposed horror feature film scripts for an LA based director. In terms of fiction I have written dozens of novellas, including more than 70 stories in the "Ian's Gang" sci-fi adventure series. I still live in Queensland, where I work as a freelance writer.

    CHAPTER ONE

Come on, Wilb, this is a bit irregular, Ian told the greying, decidedly worried looking Commander Wilburts frankly, in the lounge of Ian's Gang Base.

I know, I know, Wilburts scratched his head in irritation, but these are confirmed sightings.

You mean like last time? Philip chirped. Confirmed sightings of terrifying alien beings that turned out to be stray cows. I felt a right pillock.

Now there's a novelty, Matthew commented from behind the latest edition of 'Playboy'.

    Look, Ian - Wilburts began.

No, you look, Wilburts, Ian replied, we promised to go up to London to look after Miss Dobbs and we don't break our promises."

Miss Dobbs, Wilburts began heatedly, is a paranoid, insecure -

    Bitch? Matthew suggested.

    Cow? Philip offered.

Woman? Dean threw in. Charlotte hit him.

Client, Ian finished. Just because she thinks the rapist father of her child is coming back seven years later to get that child, without any threats or proof whatsoever, is no reason to dismiss it. She hired us to protect her for the next few weeks, and we will do so.

But this is important, Wilburts roared.

So is that, Cody spoke up.

"And who the hell asked you?" Wilburts roared.

Aye, watch it, Ian warned dangerously. Just because you're a bad-temperedaging incompetent doesn't give you the right to snap at a lady, okay? Wilburts stared at him wide-eyed, utterly gobsmacked.

Philip smirked, and Matthew began to chuckle softly.

    Okay? Ian said again.

Uh - hunh, Wilburts recovered. Okay.

Well can't you send this - er - Ms Frid to London? Wilburts demanded.

No, Ian replied. I don't send new recruits on potentially dangerous missions.

Because she's a girl, Dean laughed.

And he's got the hots for her, Philip chortled.

Ian turned purple. Slowly, dangerously, he turned to Philip and said, between clenched teeth, You're going to regret that, Philip.

    Really? Philip chuckled.

Guess who's going to London? Ian snarled.

A gentle, long laugh emanated from beneath the covers of 'Playboy'.

    Evening.

Well, bollocking hell, Philip said out loud as
