Jo’s dad pointed at the door, and the object of his anger, one of his employees, turned and sullenly walked out.

Wow, said Jo when they were alone. You’ve turned into one of those mean bosses.

Her dad had returned to some paperwork and he didn’t bother looking up. I do what I need to do to keep this place in business. That’s my job, whether they like it or not. Now he did give her a quick sideways glance. Anyway, you shouldn’t come around to the site. I don’t like how these guys look at you.

She rolled her eyes and pushed back her blonde hair. He had to be exaggerating. She was just wearing jeans and a t-shirt. Of course, they were both tight, but that was just how she liked them. And that was Roger, she said, ignoring that comment. You know, your old friend? From before I can even remember?
