‘What’s your opinion of blind dates?’ Shona asked.
She was sitting up in bed, flicking through a magazine, but not really reading it. ‘Terrible idea,’ Greg, her husband, replied, removing his watch and setting it on his bedside chest. ‘Throwing together two complete strangers who might not have anything in common, quite possibly won’t be each other’s types, and expecting them to get along for a whole evening – it’s ill-advised, at best, and downright cruel if the chemistry’s really bad.’
‘So you don’t think I should set one up for Colin,’ Shona said.
‘Ah, Colin,’ Greg sighed. ‘Much as I would love to see your big brother find happiness, there must be better ways.’
Shona frowned. ‘Like what? Colin’s so shy, he never manages to ask anyone out on a date. He liked that girl, Amber, who joined his team at the office – but he didn’t do anything. Now she’s getting married to the chap who supplies the printer ink. It’s a shame, because Colin’s a lovely guy.’
