Julie's Older Visitor

Julie first met her dad's friend while in her underwear. This was not on purpose.

She had just gotten up around ten o'clock, as was her habit. She didn't bother to get dressed, figuring that no one was home. Her long, dark hair was still messy from bed and her clothing, a tight, threadbare old t-shirt and cotton panties, was rumpled.

She opened the fridge and peered into it. She shivered slightly at the cold, goosebumps rising on her arms as her nipples stiffened beneath her t-shirt. She spotted the milk and reached for it, and that's when she heard a newspaper rustle behind her.

Shouldn't you be in school? a voice asked.

She straightened and spun around, startled for two reasons. The first reason was that she thought her dad was off at work. The second reason was that the man seated at the kitchen table was not actually her dad.

The man was about her father's age, but while her dad seemed to be cursed with an ever-expanding beer gut, this man appeared to be fit and healthy. There was just a little gray in his short, dark brown hair. He looked confident and self-assured, in the manner of a man who has never been rich but has always managed to get what he wanted anyway.
