      The alien's thick pseudopod extended toward her. Zarah kept herself perfectly still, careful not to give any offense. With efficient motions, the alien began to peel open her pressure suit. She shivered as she felt soft, warm flesh brushing against her newly exposed, naked skin. The sensation was unexpectedly pleasurable.

      This was not, she reflected, how she had planned to spend the afternoon.

      Lieutenant Hurst sat back in his chair and stared at her from behind his desk. She immediately began to feel self-conscious, although she had examined herself in a mirror just minutes before. Her uniform was immaculate, her short blonde hair perfectly brushed, and her green eyes bright from a whole six hours of sleep. She shifted uncomfortably under his gaze. Even when he was seated, Hurst made her feel short.

      Her belly turned to ice. Usually she couldn't keep straight all the candidate colony planets and their identification numbers, but 1063 was on a lot of lips lately.
