Never going to DANCE AGAIN

It took Sandra a moment to place him, but now there was no doubt. The man standing in the frozen food aisle of the supermarket was Lee Bradley, the boy who’d broken her heart 37 years earlier at the college disco. Good-looking, athletic Lee Bradley, who had probably broken more than a few hearts since then, but for Sandra, his rejection still hurt nearly four decades and two failed marriages later.

She stared at his still-handsome face, a pack of frozen peas clutched in her hand.

Finally, he met her gaze. ‘Lee?’ she ventured.

He frowned, blue eyes quizzical. She liked how his once-smooth face was now partly covered in grey stubble, matching his mid-length grey hair. The last time she’d seen him, his hair had been almost black.

‘Yes,’ he said after a pause.

‘It’s Sandra. I was Sandra Willis, back in the old days. We were in college together.’

Lee continued to look puzzled and Sandra’s stomach lurched at the prospect of him not remembering her.
