About this audiobook

Their lesson plans didn't include love. But that's about to change . . .

When Martin Krause arrives at Rose Owens's high school, she's determined to remain chilly with her new colleague. Unfriendly? Maybe. Understandable? Yes, since a loathsome administrator gave Rose's beloved world history classes to Martin, knowing it would hurt her.

But keeping her distance from a man as warm and kind as Martin will prove challenging, even for a stubborn, guarded ice queen. Especially when she begins to see him for what he truly is: a man who's never been taught his own value. Martin could use a good teacher-and luckily, Rose is the best.

Rose has her own lessons-about trust, about vulnerability, about her past-to learn. And over the course of a single school year, the two of them will find out just how hot it can get when an ice queen melts.

Olivia Dade

Olivia Dade grew up an undeniable nerd, prone to ignoring the world around her as she read any book she could find. Her favorites, though, were always, always romances. As an adult, she earned an M.A. in American history and worked in a variety of jobs that required the donning of actual pants: Colonial Williamsburg interpreter, high school teacher, academic tutor, and (of course) librarian. Now, however, she has finally achieved her lifelong goal of wearing pajamas all day as a hermit-like writer and enthusiastic hag. She currently lives outside Stockholm with her delightful family and their ever-burgeoning collection of books.

he book was going well, low drama, sweet, main characters nice and stuff.

And then, 80% of the book (I think) kicks in and Rose is just too much. I just couldn't possibily understand her stand in the conflict, especially because they had time to be together before it happened.

That being said, the Pride above all attitude ruined the last 20%. I was ready to DNF at that point, but with only one hour of audiobook to go, I pushed through.

    Shame.

That epilogue also feels like a full length chapter (runs at 26 minutes).

Olivia Dade never disappoints. This books should be read by new generations to deconstruct centuries of toxicity built up by the patriarchy.

Laughed out loud more than once, especially at the older couples antics. Real characters with real issues and sex scenes that felt real and sounded delicious!

Did not finish. Unrealistic image of teachers and slow story. The old couple was funny though

This was a cute story. The third act obstacle felt a bit clumsy and unnecessary but I enjoyed the characters and the story. Also, we really don't need to hear the word "pedagogical" more than once - or really at all - but we hear it so many times. It's a bit much. My mum's been a school teacher since I was 7 and I don't think I've ever heard her say it. Just felt awkward.

Olivia Dade is a new favorite author!

I really enjoyed the happy little surprises in this book:

*A plus-sized h whose size, curves and height were only referenced positively.
*A possible "work enemies" situation that unexpectedly skirted that trope.
*An H who wasn't an "alpha", was maybe even a "beta", but who displayed strength none-the-less.
*Rich ex-inlaws who not only weren't evil, but who were DELIGHTFUL.

This was a quiet little slow burn that I found just lovely. Rose was a unique h, and the author did a great job conveying what it was about her that attracted Martin, even though she was initially stand-offish. Martin was a unique H, and the author did a great job conveying what it was about him that attracted Rose, even though he wasn't a come-on-strong guy.

I loved the friendship that developed between them.
I loved the way they both slowly opened up to each other about their past traumas.
I loved how this gradually developing vulnerability and honestly slowly and non-dramatically led, in a very natural way, to physical intimacy, and more.

This story was so very "real to life" that when the necessary "conflict" came into play, it felt a bit forced. Still, I appreciated that when the inevitable rom com "grand gesture" moment arrived, it still managed to not be completely cliche'.

This was my third book by Olivia Dade, and even as we speak I've eagerly moved on to #4.

A really great story without all of the typical cliche's that can drag a story down. I thought this was handled much better than most. Cute couple, great side characters and a realistic storyline.

A cute read/listen. The treatment of serious issues isn't jarring and doesn't ruin the light tone. As a teacher myself, I appreciated the reality of teaching presented

i really didn’t enjoy this audiobook narrator, and the book itself felt very cringey to me. think this was exacerbated by the narrator as well

This is a sweet read that deals with some of the emotional challenges we all go through in life. The characters take a journey within themselves to find a way through their fears and pride to reach the love waiting for them on the other side. There were a couple of highly emotional scenes in the story that reduced me to tears but as sad as they were they led to me enjoying this novel all the more.
