About this audiobook

A hauntingly beautiful seaside mansion has been abandoned for decades... and for good reason.
When Abby stumbles on the crumbling estate, she's uncommonly drawn to it. Not even the chilling sight on the back porch or the two million dollar price tag can keep her from wondering... what if it were hers?

A cozy mystery and on-again, off-again romance that will have your toes curling in delight. This series starter promises to have pages turning and hearts warming, and will leave you anxiously awaiting your next trip to The Inn at Poppyridge Cove.

The basic premise is good, but there are issues with the telling. For example, for much of the story, the author spends too much time examining the thoughts of the heroine’s love interest and forgets about the mystery. Who cares what he’s thinking?! It’s supposed to be about her solving the mystery, which she never does. The story just evolves until we find out who dunnit. That’s also a plot hole in that she never explains how the villain accomplishes the deed.
Finally, there seems to be some confusion about how long they’ve been dating, they knew each other in college, but they’ve been dating one year? Two? And she acts as if she’s never seen him naked. What country are they in, Saudi Arabia?
Oh, and the thing with the aunt is just wrong!

Soooo slow to get anywhere! I made it to chapter 15 and then couldn’t listen any more. There is little substance to the story. The main female character is weak and boring and parts of the story are unrealistic.

The main character was sometimes beyond ridiculous but overall not bad. I’m reading the next one right away so I guess it must be alright.

Very intriguing to begin, then became predictable. So many loose ends...don't bother.

It started off too descriptive and repetitive. Once the story got started, it moved at a good pace and had a great plot.

Standstill Romance book. It has individual private dialogue of feelings and this is slow paced. Has potential with brief flashes of action.

Based on cover art, I misinterpreted that there would be a haunting or spooky element to its plot. It's more like a Hallmark love story. Soothing, uncomplicated, and pleasant. I've enjoyed Cozy Mysteries in the past, and this one is HEAVY on the cozy, light on the mystery. I wish all of these books were on here. I'm definitely invested enough to wonder where it's going.

This book really was a very good example of wishes do come true.. with a lot of hard work . I do however recommend you read this book first and finish with "The traitor of Poppy Ridge". Author should have included this in her summary, thus I read them out of order, but still a wonderful story.

I've decided I don't like cozy mysteries. The mystery was almost non existent, the romance was like two 14 yr olds. The boyfriend spends almost the whole time projecting and he sucked at his job. The main character made weird choices....you get the picture. Only plus was that it was short.

Great characters, very realistic with just enough drama to keep it interesting without going way over the top. The storyline about the house and how the characters dealt with the house was very rich and rewarding. I’m going to read more by this author.

This was a cute quick read. This book in my opinion is great for people just getting into reading. It had some mystery and romance. This is definitely a YA read.

Well written, well read. I’m scratching my head at the earlier reviews that complain about poor writing and one-dimensional characters. If you like slow buildup, atmospheric description and mystery that interplays with romance … without tons of detective stuff … this is truly magical. I wish the rest of the series were here on audiobook!

NOTHING is happening, I wanted so much to like this story, but it's boring, and Abby and her man are both very annoying.

"The Secret of Poppyridge Cove" is a magical story of mystery, romance, and secrets.

The storyline touches on new beginnings, healing from family trauma and mysterious circumstances.

The author created such a beautifully descriptive novel full of loveable and quirky characters.

    Must read..

This is one of the most ridiculous books I’ve ever suffered through. The plot must have been written by a middle school student and had more holes than a slice of Swiss cheese, the dialogue was stilted, and where or where was the editor?
The reader of the audiobook, while in possession of a lovely voice, needs to follow the punctuation and not stop at the end of a line but keep going until end mark. It was painful to hear her read.
It was only my stubborn refusal to not finish a book that kept me wallowing through.
    Don’t bother with this one!

No mystery. Just a couple who, despite the guy being a therapist, have horrible communication skills. I wanted to shake them both violently the entire time. The worst for me was the fact that she has an animal decapitator regularly visiting the property, but she lets her puppy roam freely without supervision! Awful.

This story was nothing like what I imagined it would be. The main character is frustratingly oblivious and unnecessary character development of non important characters was a waste of time (unless these people have significant roles in the sequels). The story was slow and in the end completely uneventful. I would give it a 2 star rating but I’m an artist and I know what it’s like to be vulnerable with your work. So I’ll just say, this was not the book for me?.

I’ve just started getting into to cozy mysteries and if this was the first book I read I would have never read another. The whole premise of the story is annoying, for lack of a better word. A couple who is in love but they can’t communicate their feelings. The mystery of this book is so unimportant to the actual story it’s almost laughable. The writing style is that of a middle schooler using a thesaurus for the first time who was told to be creative in describing the thoughts and feelings of their characters. I had to finish it because I was hoping it would surprise me in the end. I’d say skip this one.

I’m not sure what this book wants to be when he grows up — horror story? (Decapitated animals.) Romance? (Beautiful delicate flower woman and buff handsome dude who share poor communication skills.) Or mystery? (Who’s behind it all?)
Whatever it’s trying to be, it’s flowery melodramatic style is not for me…

I have never completed a book because the plot and characters were so ridiculous that I kept reading in the hopes that it would make sense at some point. I don't even know where to start. Ask yourself the question: "If I suddenly inherited millions of dollars, would I buy a crumbling animal murder house?" If you say yes, you'll love this book. The main love interest is also a therapist who doesn't seem to realize his gf has ADHD and is really condescending about her neurodiversity. (I'm not even sure the author realized she was writing a neurodiverse character even though she mentions childhood trauma.) I know this is romance, but at least do a Google search. There are some hilariously bad details. For example, the MC does a home inspection just by walking through the house alone and deciding it "looks good." Hahaha I am giving it two stars because I loved the voice of the narrator and the Pacific coast setting. And I guess I was entertained by the badness of it all? There was a sweetness to some of it even if it was really stupid.
