I couldn’t with the FMC a lot of her decisions were just dumb. This is a slow burn ? ?. Your average mafia love story. And just a heads up I was so tired of the attempted accent every time the narrator said mama or nonna like please just stop

I enjoy romantic suspense, but never thought I'd enjoy one set in the mafia. I'm so glad I gave The Sweetest Oblivion a chance! I was engaged from the beginning and finished the book in a day! It's not as gruesome as I thought it might have been…the violence isn't overly descriptive. Elena and Nico are both likeable characters, in spite of the world in which they live. They don't negate the lifestyle of a mafioso, but they each have a code that drives their choices. Nico is a don and clearly an alpha. Elena is known for her “sweetness,” but is testing the waters to move outside of the stringent boundaries in which she's been raised. Once they meet, their attraction is something neither can deny.

Narration was very good. I highly recommend The Sweetest Oblivion!

The way I hated Nico at the beginning of the book only for him to raise my already impossible to reach standards. Only one thing came to mind that he kept saying at the beginning "Assumptions?" I'm sorry my man, I'll never assume a single thing again. I think this book opened a whole new door to a genre I thought I wasn't gonna be into. And the end?! I'm not gonna give any spoilers, but come on, men like that don't exist and now I'm gonna stay single forever unless I become that type of person in a relationship.

This is a top 10% mafia book without the obligatory BDSM, yet still A#1 spice with an often delightful dialogue. Starts out with some violence, but for the most part is less violent than most.

There are some idiosyncratic Italian "Mah-mas" but very quickly they won't bother you. For once the narrators match the age and personalities of the book!
