About this audiobook

Katie Flynn isn’t sure she wants to be living in a gothic novel. Tempestuous weather? Check. Haunted mansion with a sketchy housekeeper? Check. One gorgeous man, dark and brooding, chained by an impossible secret? Check. But she’s no vulnerable, brainless heroine, even if she’s having a hard time resisting her unwilling host.

O’Neal has no choice but to rescue Katie from the hurricane that is ravaging the rocky Maine coast, and all his efforts to send her on her way meet with failure. If she stays much longer, she’ll find out about the spectres and the curse and things that go bump in the night. If she stays much longer, he just might fall in love with her, when love is out of the question in his dark life.

But Katie has other ideas, including finding out just where those secrets lead. Danger is all around, and the truth is unbelievable. But that doesn’t keep her from falling in love with a haunted man who’s everything she ever wanted.

Love, love ,love this book!!! I was look so much for a story with characters that are not annoying and interesting, and a love story with not so much weird and foul language. So this was really nice and I enjoyed the story very much!

This was ok. Not suspense, not paranormal, not romance. Somewhere in between.

It was okay. Didn’t like the hero being a seal shifter for absolutely no reason, there wasn’t a lot of build up for the romance, and then the “suspense” elements didn’t hit the mark for me. But narrator was good and I enjoyed the atmosphere created.

Accents don’t always add. Sometimes better to leave them to the listener’s imagination. Hero sounded a bit like the Lucky Charms guy. Mai e accent sounded like Long Island.

I wanted to like this novel, but it's a little too cliché for my liking, and it's pretty dated. She has a cassette player in her car, but doesn't "do telephones".

Upfront: I'm not finishing this novel because I just cannot keep interested. So maybe the last 2 hours are magnificent and I missed out on it (but I doubt it).

What made me stop reading: we get reassured that the heroine NEVER judges someone by their outward appearance (we're told every 30 minutes, so that we don't forget she's perfect), even when they are disabled like Willie ? but she still gets a feeling that he has bad intentions, despite his 'limited intelligence'. We also get a short POV of aforementioned disabled man wanting to kill her? So I'm pretty sure he's being set up as a murderer?

Can't authors just make disabled people act like real people instead of faultless angels or violent demons?

Really kept my interest. There is one decent sized surprise. The main character was likeable. The story was well told and I don't feel like there were any unanswered questions when it ended. Good ghosts, bad guys and another fantasy creature. I enjoyed this.

(O'Neal & Katie): TRIGGERS: assault, hurricanes, attempted murder. Ummm, so this book took me by surprise. I was not expecting it to be as good as it was. It's a slow burn but there is so much suspense going on that you don't miss the romance. There are so many plot twists and turns in the story that you can't possibly figure out what is really going on until the book is over. I really enjoyed this story, I almost wish there were more of the male lead's alter ego, so to speak, so there isn't still surprise felt by the female lead. Really good.

I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy this book after reading several of the reviews. I took a chance and am glad I did, I listened to the entire book and I really did enjoy it! You take that chance, listen to the audiobook and you decide!

I was worried about the h's intelligence in the beginning... Between her choices on driving during a hurricane, to worrying about saving stuff when her car is about to fall off a cliff, REALLY?, to wondering how a house without electricity can have hot water.... Ummmm, seriously?.... Gas water heater anyone? Smh.... Once I just accepted that the h isn't very intelligent, and ignored her way of thinking, or lack of.... The rest of the story was enjoyable enough.

I enjoyed this book. I clicked on it randomly. If you like old mansions by the ocean, ghosts and seal men you will like it. I would consider looking into other books by this author. The story kept my attention and the narrator was pretty good. The Maine accent turning Boston accent from the house keeper was ehh. But overall I don’t regret listening.
